Why not challenge some of your favorite Warner Bros. characters to a friendly kart race? Looney Tunes Racing features eight characters from the popular cartoon series--each with his or her own distinct vehicle. You can take Bugs for a spin in his carrot-juice-fueled carrot kart, or try Daffy and his duck-bill-shaped roadster. The 10 amusing tracks are designed around backgrounds and art elements of some of the series' most famous cartoons.

Kart racing games come in many guises, so finding one that is both addictive and a joy to play and watch, such as Looney Tunes Racing, is a nice surprise. You'll take on the role of your favorite character and race against other characters or a friend on the 10 tracks, finding hilarious surprises waiting around every bend.

There are eight of the best-loved Looney Tunes characters from which to choose. Your chosen racer must then race against the other seven characters, and winning each race in turn will earn you points to unlock the bonus track. All the tracks have themes from the featured characters' regular cartoons, and will be familiar to young and old alike, making it a joy for all ages. Strategically placed throughout are special power-ups and weapons in the form of Acme bombs and custard pies--you'll use them to slow down your opponents--as well as race-winning turbo ramps that give you that much-needed boost.

The animated tracks are simply superb, and the characters are very well animated, with all the characteristics you've come to expect. Kids who enjoy Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Marvin the Martian will love to play this--as will their parents, when the kids aren't watching. Good, clean fun suitable for ages five and over. --Robert Hyde

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT review from IGN PSX 8.4!!!!!, December 6, 2000

Looney Tunes Racing

The Looney Tunes world is re-created in perfect detail in a..kart racing game! And it's good stuff....Folks, this is a fine specimen of a kart racer that we've got on our hands. Not only does it have a great one-player championship, but it also plays well with others. This holiday season, this is the kart racer to buy.

Gameplay Finally, at long last, a kart game that goes beyond what Mario Kart's established. There's no mistaking that these two are similar, but Looney Tunes Racing does it ACME style. The controls are very basic for this type of game -- you accelerate, brake, fire a weapon, and slide. What I'm impressed by is how tight everything is. The game responds immediately to your commands; if you press to the left or to the right, the movements feel very natural and quick. This is some of the best steering I've seen in a kart game.

All your favorite Looney Tunes characters are here. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Lola (makes things a little more PC), Marvin Martian, Wile E. Coyote, and of course, Taz, are all available right off. You can earn many more characters by playing the game's championship or bonus mode. Foghorn Leghorn, Pepe le Pew, Yosemite Sam, and others can be earned. In addition to the 15 regular tracks that make up the championship, there are others that can also be earned by playing the game's features. My favorite is Wacky Land, which, although in black and white, is by far the coolest track in the game.

All of the tracks are virtual representations of places you've seen in the cartoons. There are desert canyons, forests, planets from Duck Dodgers, factories, etc. The most innovative tracks I saw were "What's Opera, Doc?" and "More Opera, Doc?". If you recall the cartoon with Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd in a mock opera, you'll instantly recognize these two tracks. The detail and creativity in these, as well as that in the other tracks, make these two levels quite exquisite.

Unlike most other kart games, there are interactive obstacles here. If you run over an "X" mark, which is drawn on the ground, you can set off a trap and stop the other opponents dead in their tracks. There are literally dozens of obstacles in each level. In the canyons, you can make boulders and pianos fall. In outer space, lasers beams can fry the racers. In the opera stage, a prancing, fat white horse can run you over. In the castle stages, the red, hairy monster runs from one side to another. These original features go one-up over other kart games.

I also really like the weapons system. Instead of having a random weapon chosen for you whenever you run across an item block, you get to choose what you receive. By running over these item blocks, you can gradually fill your weapons meter. At any time, press the circle button to exhaust the meter, and you'll fire a certain weapon. The more your bar fills up, the better the weapon you get. For instance, if you only have two blocks filled, you can drop a bomb. If you have three, a thundercloud will seek the closest racer and zap him or her with lightning. If you have five, an anvil will fall on your opponent's head (it just wouldn't be Looney Tunes without anvils). You can have up to six levels filled....

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for racing and Looney Tunes fans, December 25, 2000

This review is from: Looney Tunes Racing (Video Game)
I was a little skeptical about "Looney Tunes Racing" before I played it because most of the other Looney Tunes video games I've ever played weren't all that great. But "Looney Tunes Racing" is a different story. A lot of the well known Looney Tunes from Bugs Bunny to Wile E. Coyote are here in this fun 1 or 2-player racing game. In the 1-player mode, you can win 3 different trophies by coming in 1st place overall in that world by racing against other Looney Tunes racers. The more races you win, the more secret tracks and secret characters that will be unlocked and will become playable. In 2-player mode you can choose any track to race against someone else in and then choose how many laps you have to go around the track, whether it's 3, 5, or 7. There's also a 2-player Battle Mode in case you want to defeat your opponent in another way other than by winning a race.

"Looney Tunes Racing" is a great racing game in just about every way. It has good graphics that are all based on the Looney Tunes cartoons such as woods, caves, etc. All the Looney Tunes racers and their cars are also based on the classic cartoons. For example, Bugs Bunny rides in a car that's in a carrot design, and when you pass Daffy Duck, he'll say "You're Despicable." The control is great and it's easy to master, the sounds and music are all good for the game, and best of all, it's a lot of fun. The only slight downfall is that the game can be too easy in some parts, but the challenge gradually gets better as you progress through the game's races. In case your opponents are just too fast for you to catch up to them, there are zippers in every level for an extra burst of speed and best of all, many looney weapons such as an anvil that will fall on your opponent's head, invincibility, and a pie. There are also many arches you can ride through that will trigger a cool brain-bashing effect that will take place on the spaces marked "X." These effects can range from crushing platforms and hammers, to lasers and even a huge animal that will run out and just stand in the middle of the road for a few seconds.

Whether you want to challenge the computer opponent and concentrate on trying to get all the hidden tracks and secret characters or if you like playing against your friends, brother, sister, etc. in racing or battle, "Looney Tunes Racing" is a great game. I recommend anybody who likes racing games to give "Looney Tunes Racing" a try. It's not likely to disappoint many people.

Both boys, ages 3 and 6, love this game. I hear them laughing all the time. I seldom have to help them, which makes my life a lot easier.
