Editorial Reviews

Crazy Horse are best know as Neil Young's backup group for the past 30 years. Over that time they have made only a handful of excellent albums. One of those was "Loose". Originally hitting the Billboard charts in 1972 on Reprise Records, the vinyl album has been a long sought after collector's item. We finally make it available on compact disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loose is Tight, February 13, 2007
This review is from: Loose (Audio CD)
This album shows the versatility of The Horse. Usually a different line-up on every album, but that just adds to the magic. Loose is tight in all aspects-writing,playing,recording,etc. A must have for Crazy Horse fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars romantic, wistful country-rock, March 21, 2010
By
This review is from: Loose (Audio CD)
Beautiful country-rock songs with a slightly wistful edge, an underrated album by the mighty Crazy Horse. Similar to country rock bands like Poco, all the songs are melodic and have pretty melodies. A consistently pleasing album. Is more smooth and low-key than the first Crazy Horse album, but shares a similarity in it's high quality songwriting. Especially good are the songs Move, Hit and Run, We Are All Alone Now, and I Don't Believe It, but all the songs go together very well. The lyrics are also very good, mostly about romance, and the different emotions involved with it. Special mention to George Whitsell, who writes the majority of the songs, the guitaring of Greg Leroy, the keyboarding of John Blanton and the heartfelt vocal harmonizing. The different songwriters all blend together seamlessly. And the unbeatable rhythm section of Billy Talbot and Ralph Molina is always excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Horse Power, December 22, 2009

This review is from: Loose (Audio CD)
Loose as a moose as the saying goes, mellow yellow and plugged-in country acoustic for the most part and in track 10, I Don't Believe It, well what we have here is just a lovely lopsided little hoedown. Track 12 though, One Sided Love, is for me the record's gigantic cheese doodle--Crazy Horse crunch like this I could literally listen to till the cows come home. What's not to love about these electric caballeros anyway? Even their other solo album from 1972, At Crooked Lake, the same year as Loose as a matter of fact, has one number, track 3 I think, We Ride, that's a right tasty trip all on its own. Track 6 too on Crooked Lake, Vehicle, sounds like something Ween would write--about as big a compliment as a bozo like me can pay I hasten to add. I'm pretty certain that practically everyone ought to own a copy of Crazy Horse's first record, the one with Danny Whitten--simply called Crazy Horse as it turns out and really just too dang good not to have stashed somewhere in your hut--but these later and lesser-known Horse platitudes are not to be sneezed at neither, not by a long length. This enduring bunch of hairballs helped Neil Young shine on countless studio and live recordings--am getting Weld for Crimbo and I can't bleeding wait--but I'm here to tell ya they're none too shabby in their own right.
