Hot, smokin' Texas guitar--who'd a thought she's a girl?,
By Sui Juris "Dave" (Michigan, USA) - See all my reviews

I am a guitarist, and a blues afficianado of many years, and I say with authority, this is a fantastic album. Forget that Davies is a woman---she's a great guitarist, no matter what. This is Texas blues---chugging rhythms, biting tone, extended solos galore. This is one of my favorites in my collection of hundreds.

Great follow up. Strong horns,

A great follow up album to Picture This, Davies vocals improve on this record. Her vocals can be plaintive, as on A Mother's Blues, or wail as they do on the faster, bouncier numbers. The Miami Horns offer great backup and help make this album.

Blues from a womanly point of view.....,
By Patrice Webb (Georgetown, California USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Loose Tonight (Audio CD)
Real deal blues from a Woman's perspective played in an a style that is not the least bit feminine. Women, especially those who have been through the rough times of divorce will especially identify with "A Mother's Blues" a song about a woman who re-discovers herself through her children.Add an aggresive style of guitar playing and songwriting to the mix, put this in your CD player and enjoy. Also recommended is Debbie Davies "Tales from the Austin Motel". |
