Working in the field of alcohol abuse and prevetion for over ten years, I consider this a valuable reference in my library. Kinney and Leaton explain concepts in easy to understand terms while not skimping on necessary details. There are often comic drawings in the margins which humorously go to the heart of the topic; instead of belittling the topics, these drawings serve to bring the topics to life. Currently working as a trainer, I find myself often going back to this book for reminders and clarifications.

I will be using this text in my introductory Intro to Alcohol class, have fully reviewed it, and am very happy with the revisions. The text is very readable, up to date, and accurate. I hope my students enjoy the revision as I have.

Loosening the Grip is comprehensive in its coverage of a broad range of aspects of alcohol use as well as alcoholism. It reviews historical perspectives, etiology of disease, medical aspects and special populations, and in its 6th edition, has remained abreast of scientific and cultural changes in the field of alcoholism treatment. It has a reader friendly appearance, using cartoons metaphorically to emphasize points. Very useful all-around info on the subject.

This book is a really nice teaching text. It is a classic with a fresh 2009 update. As one reviewer stated, it is not perfect (actually, I've never found a text that is perfect and it is my responsibility to point out the inaccuracies in any text). I truly enjoy the readability of the chapters and the sections. The sidebars add great interest to the material.

I'm actually writing this review in order to share with other educators about the *tremendous* resources that are provided by the publisher, McGraw-Hill. The text has its own web site with an instructor's handbook and chapter quizzes. There are additional web resources that can be used at that site. McGraw-Hill also has a free product called EZ Test where professors can create either online tests for students to take or download created tests onto their hardrive to be printed off and duplicated. The EZ test program has grade books where student's grades can be kept in either a PDF format or an excel format and downloaded or exported.

I am so pleased with with the text and the resources. It has made preparing for and managing my course much smoother than other courses without the resources. I highly recommend the book.

Really a great book. Easy and fun to read. I highly recomend it for anyone that is dealing with an alcoholic. This was written as a text book, but it reads as if is a novel.

I need the book for a class I am currently taking. To submit a claim would be a never ending story, to reorder the book would add more time to the process, just substitute and mail this thing, it's been almost two months since I placed the order, use common sense.

This book was an excellent purchase. The book was in very good condition and "like-new" as stated, Plus for the price, I couldnt go wrong-I am happy with my purchase.

I received this book with some passages highlighted, I thought this was going to bother me. But whoever had this book before highlighted great stuff so it hasn't been an issue. A few pages are bent, but otherwise very good condition. And I got it in great time. Thank you.
