Book Description

Blush: This is a suggestive romance (love scenes are not graphic) How does a good and honorable man atone for wicked deeds he committed when he was neither good nor honorable? How does he tell the woman forced to marry him of the supernatural event that transformed his life, cleansing him of the darkness? Above all, how does he convince his wife that he loves her, that he too is worthy of being loved, when all she feels for him is hatred? Evan Richmond, a spoiled, debauched aristocrat, is confronted by an obligation he can’t ignore. He must marry, and Brenna Hilliard is to be his bride. On his wedding night, Evan commits an unforgivable sin, stirring the wrath of something beyond this world. In the guise of a raging storm, he is “struck” unconscious. When he awakens his life is forever changed, for he no longer carries the soul he was born with. Another has taken its place. Thus Brenna is faced with a choice. Does she reject her husband because of whom he has always been…or love the man he is becoming?

4.0 out of 5 stars Great paranormal romance! May 12, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm not generally a big fan of paranormal stories, but since I AM a huge fan of Wicklund, I obviously had to try this book. (She has so few books out yet that none can be passed over.) And Wicklund delivered a great tale once again! This book deserves 4.5 stars.

Brenna's father is dead, which leaves only her less-than-loving, much older half-brother as her protector. And he promptly marries her off to Lord Evan Rutherford, to whom Brenna had been betrothed but broken off with previously. On their horrific excuse for a wedding night, supernatural forces intervene, leaving Evan a changed man. Brenna must decide whether or not she can ever forgive & trust the man to whom she now finds herself both wed & disturbingly attracted.

I really enjoyed this book, which doesn't surprise me. I've loved every Wicklund book I've read (which is, well, all of them). Again she delivers a well-crafted tale with amazing character development & an engaging plot. What did surprise me, though, was the dialogue. I think this was the best I've read in all her books. There wasn't any cheese here. It was straight up angry, insane, brave, or sensual, whatever the situation required. I loved it.

The timing of events was one of the things that kept this from being a 5-star book for me. There were a couple things that I didn't expect to happen when they did, but ultimately, it was the length of time Brenna required before accepting Evan that seemed too rushed for me. And actually, it wasn't so much that she jumped in too quickly, but rather that I didn't get to see Brenna & Evan spend much time together during the process that kept it from being satisfactory. I felt like it was glossed over too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lord of Always Is a Keeper August 2, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I devoured Lord of Always (and recently reviewed it at length on Joan Slings [...], one of my blogs). This noteworthy historical romance with a paranormal twist is a KEEPER.

The book's "blurb" reads: "How does a good and honorable man atone for wicked deeds he committed when he was neither good nor honorable?"

I don't think I'll be guilty of posting any spoilers because that blurb tells exactly what the book is about, but the unfolding story, and the sometimes shocking turn of events, makes this book anything but ordinary. Ms. Wicklund's deft characterization makes the fictional people leap from the page, and the emotion-drenched scenes hold the reader captive.

Though this marriage of convenience plot may seem familiar, this is not a commonplace story. The author's voice makes the book unique. You'll be hooked from chapter 1, sentence 1: "The world wept a silent, windless downpour. . . ."

The paranormal twist foreshadowed by a very short prologue has an impact on the male protagonist that is rendered subtly and made more believable by the author's restraint. Like any good book, this one has an appealing heroine whose goodness is believable, and a hero who was so despicable that it's hard to believe he could be redeemed. But he is.

All in all, I highly recommend Lord of Always, a novel about love, dark deceit, and redemption, and I simply can't wait for the next book from talented Cynthia Wicklund.

4.0 out of 5 stars Historical Romance meets Paranormal August 4, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The book starts off with some disturbingly twisted variation of old pagean ritual sacrifice, with the heroine as the "sacrificial lamb". It is so disturbing it is hard to believe that the heroine is able to accept
that her new husband, who instigated the evil ritual, has received a new soul and is a different
man. I would think that even when he continues to demonstrate his change of heart, that PTSD would still be a problem. It certainly is a new twist to historical romance. I thought the book well written and definitely a page turner, but even at the end of the story there are a lot of unanswered questions which drove me a little crazy. I got this for 99¢ for Kindle, so I am not sorry I bought and read it. But if I had paid more I think I would have given it a much lower rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book May 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When I started the book, I could not believe that the author had allowed Brenna to marry such an awful man who associated with his even evilous win tsister in their wicked deeds and really wanted to put down the book because there was no way Brenna could stay married to such a ruthless man. I decided to continue reading because I was intrigued to see what happens. I'm glad I stuck it out because the exceptional turn-around made by her husband and the unexpected turn of events was worth it. Thank you Cynthia for bringing this book to me. I am your fan for always.

From the first sentence, I was captured and never let down. Cynthia Wicklund easily transports the reader to another time and another world.

Brenna is such a wonderful character, as a reader I easily became her and that's the sign of a gifted writer.

I'm not a big fan of historical romances, but Cynthia Wicklund has not disappointed me yet.

Don't hesitate - this is a book that will never be deleted from your Kindle.
