More About the Author

Laura Matthews has been writing for more than twenty years. She is the author of thirty novels, mostly Regency (as Laura Matthews) and contemporary women's fiction (as Elizabeth Neff Walker). Her love of the Regency period developed from reading Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen.

Ms. Matthews lives in San Francisco with her architect husband Paul and their two dogs. Their children are grown, which gives them more time to travel and explore. Ms. Matthews actively pursues her research interests (the Regency period and medical sociology) by membership in her local Jane Austen Society and by volunteering at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center.

5.0 out of 5 stars This story was put together really well, April 18, 2001

Rebecca was the woman he had waited for: beautiful-with a fresh, open countenance; innocent, but intelligent, agreeable, but independent. And so they were married. Suddenly he decided that her beauty was only skin-deep, her innocence was illusion, and her independence was really willful disregard of his feelings. And bewildered Rebecca must use all her beauty, intelligence and independence to overcome what she could not understand....

I found her story quite enjoyable and true to the Regency style

I have read several novels by this author and I have become one of her fans. She writes excellent books and this story in particular was very good. She has a way of making a story very entertaining to the point you don't want to put the book down until you have finished. I love the characters in this book and how they relate to one another.
