5.0 out of 5 stars A exellent novel, that shows the struggle between good and e
I believe that lord of the flies is one of the best books i have read for a really long time. It described terrible traumas that happened on the ilsland between the boys and really made you think about the roles searching for a explanation. It helped me see that we all have to deal with being good or bad because there will always be the Ralphs, the simons, the Jacks,...

2.0 out of 5 stars This book was way too primative!
This book was way too much like a little kids' story. I think that Golding should have wrote this for a bunch of 12 year-olds. When viewed from this point, the book is okay, but definitely not a 5 star selection.

I believe that lord of the flies is one of the best books i have read for a really long time. It described terrible traumas that happened on the ilsland between the boys and really made you think about the roles searching for a explanation. It helped me see that we all have to deal with being good or bad because there will always be the Ralphs, the simons, the Jacks, the piggys and the Rogers out there and we have to strive to be the right one and hang out with the right ones.

I would recomend this book to any and everyone who likes William Golding and his unique style of writing books. We were reading this book in school and at first it wasn't to my liking but now it is one of my favorite books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lord of the Flies, January 21, 2001

This review is from: Lord of the Flies (Barron's Book Notes) (Paperback)
Imagine tenty boys alone on a deserted Island without a single parent to tell them what to do. In Lord of the Flies, this situation occurs. Twenty boys are brought down to this island off the coast of South America due to a terrible plane crash that killed the Pilot(the only adult on the plane). At their first meeting one boy is chosen as the leader. Rules and important decisions are made and accepted by everyone. Young and old boys seem to be working together and it seems to be a great civilization. Then friendships begin to struggle and one boy is picked to be the outsider. A fight between Ralph, who is the representative of civilization and Jack, who becomes the leader of forces of anarchy begins on the Island. In essence, this is the struggle between good and evil. The ending of the novel concludes in a gut wrenching showdown beteween the two.

William Golding, the author, does a very good job of explaining the exprtessions and feelings that the boys, young and old have. As you can probobally can see, I thought that it was a great book and recommend it to anybody(boys or girls) who may like adventure books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Literary Classic, November 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lord of the Flies (Barron's Book Notes) (Paperback)
Lord of the Flies is perhaps one of the greatest fictional works of the century. From a deliberately understated beginning, Golding gently increases the pace until the book literally tears into the reader's soul. Ralph, Piggy, Jack, Simon, et al, are all characters who represent more than simply a literary metaphor; rather they bring with them a mood and a concept. It would be churlish to attempt to describe such a book, instead I shall just say that if you only read one book this year, make sure that it is this one.
