5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent teaching tool
My husband recently used portions of the movie in his history class, when I was looking for a good reference book this one popped up. It has good essay questions, mind mapping examples (using illustrations --not just words!) so he was able to use it to enhance the student learning process. Good Book.

3.0 out of 5 stars review on Lord of the Flies
I liked how in the beginning they were civilized, voted on a team leader, and how they were all together as one big group. I didn't really like how Jack wanted to be leader instead of Ralph even though they voted and so he became leader of most people because people wanted to be on his side instead of Ralph because Ralph was the smarter guy and Jack was the guy that liked...

3.0 out of 5 stars review on Lord of the Flies, January 10, 2012

I liked how in the beginning they were civilized, voted on a team leader, and how they were all together as one big group. I didn't really like how Jack wanted to be leader instead of Ralph even though they voted and so he became leader of most people because people wanted to be on his side instead of Ralph because Ralph was the smarter guy and Jack was the guy that liked to hunt and have more fun. I think that you should read it because it gets really good and if you like books that are man vs. nature you will really like it.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a study guide, not the actual book, August 8, 2010

I wasn't familiar with the "Literature Made Easy" series and assumed I was buying a copy of the "Lord of the Flies" book. This is, in fact, a study guide similar to Cliff Notes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lord of the Flies is a great book for all ages., April 28, 1999

Lord of the Flies By: William Golding Putnam Publishing Group 1959 $5.56

Lord of the Flies is as great book to read for someone who enjoys stories with action, competition, and a great overall plot. As I read this book one thing I noticed is the realism. The writer, William Golding, does a fantastic job of describing the hardships and predicaments of the young group of adolescents and their everyday adventures after their crash-landing on a deserted island.

Another thing that stood out was the different personalities and attitudes of all the boys and how they viewed and reacted to their problems.

The story begins with the group of boys who had just crash-landed on the island meeting up and stating all of the possibilities of survival. Once they realize that they will probably be on the island for a long time they decide to choose a leader by vote, Ralph. Ralph is the maturest of all of the boys. He sets a strict set of rules and the boys split up into groups; the hunters, and the ones who keep a fire going to signal for help. The hunters are led by Jack, Ralph's rival. Soon Ralph's rules start being challenged and ignored and the whole situation goes haywire.

The story is full of drama and excitement as they come across problem after problem and conflict begins between the boys.

One good thing I liked about this book is the fact that it is very easy to follow. I had no problems whatsoever following the story.

I thing Golding wrote a great book for all ages and I highly recommend it to anyone.

this is a classic but most of the book describes the scene and there is not much focus on the story line. If you are an english literature buff you will like the fancy language. I am an engineer and would like to move on with the story.

I ordered this book thinking it would be "The Lord of the Flies" in an easy to read version. It is not. It is more of a study guide. I wanted it for a student with dyslexia who needed to read it for summer reading. He couldn't use it. Someone should rewrite these books for kids with reading problems...
