Book Description

June 7, 1983
Elspeth Parkstone was 26 and determined not to marry. Viscount Greywell had lost his beloved wife in childbirth and his heir was a sickly infant. Greywell was desperate for a solution to his torn allegiances—his diplomatic skills needed in Vienna, but his dread of what might befall his son if he left. Was marrying Elspeth Parkstone the solution—or merely another insoluble dilemma? Regency Romance by Laura Matthews; originally published by Signet

More About the Author

Laura Matthews has been writing for more than twenty years. She is the author of thirty novels, mostly Regency (as Laura Matthews) and contemporary women's fiction (as Elizabeth Neff Walker). Her love of the Regency period developed from reading Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen.

Ms. Matthews lives in San Francisco with her architect husband Paul and their two dogs. Their children are grown, which gives them more time to travel and explore. Ms. Matthews actively pursues her research interests (the Regency period and medical sociology) by membership in her local Jane Austen Society and by volunteering at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center.

When Elspeth Parkstone wed the handsome and wealthy Viscount Greywell, she fully lived up to her part of their bargain. She tenderly tended back to health Greywell's motherless infant son. She ran his magnificent manor and supervised his imposing staff of servants with matchless efficiency. She presided as an impeccably proper hostess on private life. And all she asked in return was that he keep his promise not to touch her. Truly this man and this marriage were faced with a most devilish dilemma-a Gordian knot of romantic reluctance that only the most subtle strategy and startling masterstroke could hope to untangle...

This was a fabulous book, well worth reading.

This novel surprised me, it was so engaging it dominated my life until I'd read the whole. I've read many of the Regency offerings available here and it rates among the best. Well worth buying, it's one you'll keep and read again.
