I enjoyed this read and look forward to the next book in the series.

Where the first book was set on Earth, much of the one takes place in the fairy court, as the fairy king is in decline and his realm is decaying as well.

Shona Husk again shows us her talents in creating a wonderful, capricious/fanciful tale about the world of the Fae.

Lord of the Hunt was such a great book. Taryn returns to the fairy court to seek asylum for her parents before the powers shifts in the other world. Her and her parents live in the human world. If she doesn't get asylum for them, they could die if they stay in the human world when the power shifts.
While at court, Taryn meets Verden, Lord of the Hunt. They both fall in love. He tries to help her find the asylum that she needs even if he has to give her up. Taryn becomes Lord of the Hunt and Verden becomes a Greyling and banished to the human world. But that doesn't stop Taryn from getting what she wants. She gets the asylum for her parents and she still gets Verden. She provide that nothing was going to stand in her way for her true love.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book series appears to be almost at its climax, with the change of rule in Annwyn only 2 mortal weeks away! While the previous book took place mostly in the mortal world, this one was told mostly in the royal court of Annwyn. The scheming, deals, romance, sizzle, and action were definitely ramped up in this second installment.

Taryn is a fairy raised in the mortal world by her fairy parents. Her father has been exiled and her mother chose to join him for the duration. Unfortunately, with the change in rule threatening to kill any fairies not in Annwyn, Taryn has been tasked with trying to get a pardon for her father. This proves to be much trickier than she first thought. Especially because she is immediately ensnared by the lord of the hunt, Verden.

Verden was raised a farm boy, but, through a lot of risky bets, has risen to the rank of lord of the hunt. What he used to think mattered no longer appears to hold the same shine now that Taryn is in his life. They are forced to sneak away so as not to lose the king's favor, but we all know how those types of things end. Luckily, everyone has their own scheme.

The romance and sizzling scenes in this book were even better than in book 1. Maybe it has something to do with fairies and forbidden lust. Either way, the story was compelling and really well thought out. So many schemes were going at once that it should have been confusing, but it really wasn't. I am eager to see what happens with the prince and his would be queen -- hopefully in the next book!(

Shona Husk again shows us her talents in creating a wonderful, capricious/fanciful tale about the world of the Fae. I am an ardent fan of her Goblin series. I was sorry to hear that series had ended and wondered what could replace it. I finished Lord of the Hunt the day I started reading it. I could not put it down. The author's world building skills and her ability to show us that world through her writing is a skill more writers should emulate. There is an amazing love story between Verden and Taryn which was incredible but believable. Verden is an impenetrable, coldhearted Fae who has worked his way up to the position of Lord of the Hunt from his simple beginnings on a farm at the outskirts of Annwyn. He has somehow lost who he really was in the machinations of the Fae court. His loyalty to Gwyn, the King, is unquestionable until he meets Taryn. She is also a fairy but has lived her short life in the mortal world, coming to court at the suggestion of Crown Prince, Ferlan, to ask a favor of the King for her parents. There is so much intrigue, so many games being played constantly at court, that it is difficult to know who is a friend or foe, if any friends can truly exist there. The Fae are actually quite primitive in their beliefs and in their methods of punishment, which can be determined by cruel games and court whimsy. There exists no happiness for most in Annywn, and a change in leadership is a prominent focus at court. The effects of any change at court are also felt in the mortal world and not in a good way. This is the start of a new series by Shona Husk and I am already an ardent fan. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Five stars for this remarkable read. I highly recommend this to all fans of romance and a truly enjoyable reading experience where, for awhile, we too can be transported to the fascinating world of the Fae!

I have reviewed all three books in Shona’s Goblin series and both books in her Court of Annwyn series. I am not a big paranormal romance reader, but I love Shona’s writing and stories. I have never been disappointed by her books. I was so excited when she decided to write a series about the Fae. They are my favorite supernatural characters. Lord of the Hunt is Verden’s story. We briefly met Verden in book 1 Outcast Prince. He was cold and ridged in his ways, but I knew there was more to him. This book can be read as a stand-alone.

Verden has only lived in Annwyn, traveling into the human realm only when his job as the Hunter required it. He never mixed with humans. He has spent his whole life playing the games of the court, lying and gambling to reach the highest status the King could bestow. His loyalty to the King has been unwavering until now. Taryn is fairy, but was raised in the human world because her father was banished before her birth, and her mother followed because she loved him more than her loyalty to the King and his court. Taryn has also had to pretend and lie about who she was so she could fit in with the humans, but it was nothing compared to the games she would have to play in Annwyn.

Annwyn is dying because the King and Queen’s relationship is failing and full of nothing but hate and resentment. Their son and heir Prince Felan hasn’t found a human wife yet, therefore the power can’t seamlessly shift to him and bring Annwyn back in balance. The failing of Annwyn also has dire consequences for the human realm. Taryn goes to Annwyn to get the King to lift her father’s banishment so her family can come back to Annwyn and not die in the power shift that is coming.
