Book Description

Signet Regency Romance March 1, 1988
Lord John Stokes was the kind of gentleman Sophia Wyndham dreamed of--handsome, charming, kind, and wealthy. But, he was also most definitely not in love with Sophia--which made this the most irresistible challenge she had ever faced. A Regency romance reissue.

This review is from: Lord John's Lady (Signet Regency Romance) (Paperback)
This is more than a frothy regency romance. Lord John's Lady won the RT Reviewer's Choice Award 1988 for Best Regency Novel.

Lord John Stokes is a diplomatic attache in St. Petersburg, Russia. Intrigue and spying are part of the job. When he overhears the plight of Sophia Wyndham, he is determined to save her.

Sophia Wyndham, a British subject through her deceased father, is appalled when her Russian relatives want to use her, through marriage to a disgusting Russian prince, to advance themselves. She is all too willing to throw herself into Lord John's scheme to get her to London to the protection of her paternal relations. She falls in love with the gallant diplomat, of course.

In London, Sophia is kidnapped by her Russian cousin, who informs her that she will be taken back to Russia and a forced marriage. However, another man has his own plans for Sophia and he wrests her from her cousin.

Lord John hasn't been idle. He has realized Sophia Wyndham is the only woman for him and he sets out in dangerous pursuit, armed with pistols and sword.

This tale of romance and sheer swash-buckling adventure is classic historial fiction at it's best.
