This review is from: The Lord of Merewood Keep (Paperback)
Steeped in the history of the times The Lord of Merewood Keep did not need to invent conflict. The conflict was already there, and her characters were in the thick of it. Garrick of Merewood needed to free his philandering brother from a neighboring lord's dungeon. Jillian would help...at a price; she was in an intolerable situation herself and needed marriage. Garrick partially fullfills this obligation but stops short of the marriage bed. He is beset on all sides by his duty and his obligations. His duty to his family is clear he should set her aside and marry an heiress. But he should honor his word and make the marriage a true one. His heart desires his bride with a fierce hunger, which is at war with his knowledge that his people will not survive unless there is a fresh infusion of riches to rebuild Merewood Keep. The characters seem to walk off the page until you are right there with them exulting in their triumphs and crying with their despair. You hate to leave them at the end of the book and it is relief that you realize their stories are continued in Saxon Bride and A Scot's Honor.
