5.0 out of 5 stars exactly what is it.
i could criticize this book to no end. i could rag on it's slightly shallow characters, it's oddly rushed and tepid ending, the loose writing, the slightly stilted dialogue, the size of the print, the cheap paper, etc, etc, ad nauseum. i could, but i won't. why? because i *liked* this book. i picked it up and bought it because i wanted to read a cheesy romance novel. and...

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing to be desired
It was a tale of disappoint. Jamie is very dull and underdeveloped. In the beginning he seeks revenege and believes nothing until reasured by his father figure. He comes off as very stupid and never learns from his countless mistakes. His enemies seems far smarter than he and his methods to victory are not in sync with his character. The book is dragged out and the scenes...

This review is from: Lord of the Night (Love Spell historical romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
i could criticize this book to no end. i could rag on it's slightly shallow characters, it's oddly rushed and tepid ending, the loose writing, the slightly stilted dialogue, the size of the print, the cheap paper, etc, etc, ad nauseum. i could, but i won't. why? because i *liked* this book. i picked it up and bought it because i wanted to read a cheesy romance novel. and i loved it because that was exactly what i got.
'Lord of the Night' doesn't claim to be a great classic, nor does it try to be. it's a wonderfully saucy cheap romance novel that was worth every penny. so what if the characters were a little static? it helps the reader to put themselves in their places. what man hasn't gone slightly stupid over a woman? what woman hasn't acted spoiled because she hasn't gotten her way? shouldn't we be able to empathize with them? that seemed to me to be one of the stronger points of the book- the characters were, at times, distinctly un-likable, and yet i still found myself sympathetic.
in the end, i liked this book because it was satisfying. i wanted an easy read with likable characters, true love, a despicable villain, and a sweet happy ending. the plot was simple, but interesting. the setting was colorful and well depicted. emotions were well conveyed, the relationships portrayed were realistic. if you're looking to read a great romance novel, this is it. if you're looking for something difficult to read, intellectual, world view changing, or you just hate yourself and the world and only read to cause pain, go buy a copy of 'Heart of Darkness' and be done with it. otherwise, this book is for you.

Lord OF THE NIGHT was a a very interesting book. I read it in one night. It is well worth reading. I loved the way Jamie fought for what was his and let nothing stand in his way.

If you are looking for a great book, read Lord of the Night. The author will make feel that you are Lady Aleta Sommerset. Imagine! At the end she will make you fall in love with Jaime.

1.0 out of 5 stars A forced read, August 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Lord of the Night (Love Spell historical romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I haven't read many of Connie Mason's books and if Lord of the Night is anything to go by I won't be reading anymore. I forced myself to read through the whole just to see how bad it would get - I wasn't disappointed. The storyline is interesting enough although a little predictable. I found Aleta SOmerset to be the most annoying romantic heroine I've come across in a long time. She comes across as spoilt, selfish, immature and incredibly feeble. Although she was described as being such in the beginning, her character just didn't develop at all. Jamie was little better - he also came across as selfish and to be honest not too bright. The ending was very rushed and tame. IF you don't want tp waste your money as I did then don't but his book
