Being a big fan of these movies, I really enjoyed this game. It allows you to play as Aragorn in the quest to save Middle Earth. The game starts with Aragorn entering Mordor to do battle with Saruman. As fans of the movie and books know, this never happened. Then you discover that it is Samwise Gamgee's children playing as Aragorn to recreate the story of their hero. Sam sits down and explains that their play battle never actually happened. The rest of the game is in chapters, with Sam telling his children what 'really' happened and you playing it out. Rather entertaining although the videos of Sam talking can get rather boring. However, the second time around I skipped through them by hitting either start or select on my DSi (can't remember which one, I think it's start). The only complaint I have about this game is that it doesn't follow the movie (or the books) very closely. It emphasizes things that the movies skipped over and didn't happen in the book (such as Aragorn guiding the Hobbits to Rivendell, takes several chapters) while other battles were scarcely mentioned. However, if you are not looking for something that follows very closely this game can be addicting. It was not that long, less than 20 chapters so I completed it within a few weeks of casual gaming, but there are also a few arenas to be unlocked in which you battle one attacker after the other. And you can always go back to replay the game in a harder level. I had almost finished playing the game a second time at a harder level when I shut the power off on my unit too soon and somehow corrupted my save file. So now I'm starting over to recomplete it. Altogether worth my money.

I bought this game, in all honesty, to raise my overall purchase price high enough to receive free shipping...plus, I'm a long time Tolkien junky. I'd read some online reviews of this game on different platforms, but found only 2 reviews of the DS game which rated if fairly mediocre.
Boy was I surprised when I started playing it. Sean Astin (Sam from the movies) provides voice acting, the graphics are beautiful (especially for a DS game), and the game is flat out fun. Good, basic action role-playing. This is the closest you'll get to Middle Earth on the DS.

I am really enjoying this game. Takes you through all 3 movies as Aragorn. I really thought it would be cheesy and boring--but it actually is a lot of fun. If you are looking for a challenging and in depth game--this is not for you. But if you like LOTR games in general and want to pass the time with a fun, easy game--get it!

My son is 10 and likes that you get a variety of weapons and challenging levels. HE says it's one of the best DS games he's had.
