Story
It is now the Fourth Age of Middle-earth; a time of peace. Yet though the great battles and deeds that eventually lead to the destruction of the Ring of Power are a distant memory for most, they are not forgotten. Preparations are underway in Hobbiton for a great party to welcome the legendary Aragorn, now king of the united lands of Arnor and Gondor, and to honor Samwise Gamgee for his service during the War of the Ring. With Aragorn’s visit to the Shire imminent, Sam’s children are eager to learn more about this great man and so Sam, now Mayor of Hobbiton, embarks on a tale of the revered warrior, Aragorn, and the valiant deeds that transformed a Ranger of the North, into the last great king of men in Middle-earth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Game for Casual LOTR Fans November 10, 2010

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This is a fun hack and slash with some shooting that lets you play through many of the major events in Lord of the Rings. It embeds cut-away scenes in the action while you play and the graphics are OK. There are a few side-quests, and you can find materials and forge weapons at hidden dwarven forges. You can find armor and power-objects in chests. You have to fight and look thoroughly to find the hidden items, keys, rescue people, etc. It lets you re-play missions where you were not entirely successful, at any time after you clear the mission once. If you just play through the story, it's a short game. Probably more for the casual gamer and LOTR fan than the hard-core gamer.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Enough Way to pass the time. January 2, 2011

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I wanted a copy of the this little game, mostly because I am a collector of all things Tolkien-related. The game is actually pretty decent. Although not overly complex, long, or difficult, fans of the movies or books will find much to enjoy. The environmental graphics are really good, and the bits about Sam telling the story to his children before the visit of King Elessar are a reference to similar material found in The History of Middle-Earth Volume IX: Sauron Defeated. You will not find lots of depth in this game, but it is fun nonetheless.

3.0 out of 5 stars Psp version has no co-op! September 20, 2011
Platform for Display:Sony PSP
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
The psp version and some people have said the DS as well have no co-op multiplayer. This game is quite easy yet is still somewhat fun. It would have been a whole lot more fun if we could play with a friend.I bought this thinking I could play with my son.
Game developers get wise, there is a demand for multiplayer games, even mediocre co-op games get bought more by families and casual gamers much more than only single player campaigns.

2.0 out of 5 stars This crap isn't worthy of the LotR name March 28, 2012
Platform for Display:Sony PSP
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
The Good: Collecting items is fun, varied environments

The Bad: Replays the movies, shallow RPG elements, boring combat, repetitive enemies, easy

The LoTR franchise has been struggling in the games department since the movies came out. While there have been amazing LoTR games the adventure games have been slacking since Return of the King. Aragorn's Quest is a sneaky thing because it just retells the story of the movies in Aragorn's eyes using the movie actors and it's kind of lame. While the movies are great please let's move away from there and do something original.

The combat is the lackluster and is pretty disappointing. You can find abilities and equip them and these come in pretty handy for more powerful enemies. You can buy new attacks, find new weapons, armor, and bows and these are all pretty useful. You can level up by killing enemies, but you can't distribute the points at all. The whole RPG thing is very bare bones and I would have liked to see more depth here and more customization, but it's not there.

Actually doing the combat is boring since you just mash heavy and light attacks and most enemies are dumb and are easy to kill. You can parry and counter attack, and use your bow for far off enemies, but it's been done before so many times. Every enemy attacks almost the same, and while there are a few good moments there just aren't enough. Running around highly linear levels and hitting this switch, find four stones to open this door, hit that switch is really annoying.

The game doesn't look very good either with an isometric prospective, and doesn't sound too hot either. The game is just boring, and easy, and drags on longer than it should. I was really looking forward to this game, but with just a few more months this game could have been something epic.

This game is fun, but average. Did not quite live up to my entertainment expectations. Please do not expect to much from this game.
