The Playalong Lord of the Rings Figures are fantastic. This Balrog could have been good, but be warned - its only half a Balrog. It's missing legs and tail. It's heartbreaking, because it would have been a great figure if it was free standing. I'm even wondering if the legs and tail from a plastic dinosaur could be used to piece him together(with knife and super glue). Hopefully Playalong will issue a complete Balrog, because this is just a shame.

This diorama gets top marks across the board for sculpt and paint applications. It has some articulation but not much. But that's fine as it fits in with the rest of the Armies of Middle Earth series by Play Along. These are mini figures that look awesome and the fun comes in posing them and setting up the diorama. A fully articulated Balrog was issued last year but was over $100 retail and only makes sense if you stocked up on lots of the Toybiz 6" action figures. On a shorter budget this set offers alot of fun and you can add some additional AoME figure packs to the shelf to flesh it out even more if you want. This collectible playset of Gandalf and a Balrog in the Mines of Moria is part of a large array of collectibles produced by Play Along Toys and still available from a number of sources accessible through Amazon.com. The sets are highly detailed, of high quality, and come packaged in sturdy containers. As the sets contain small parts, they are not intended for small children. They are likely to appreciate in value as collectibles over the coming years.
