Needless to say I was reading a lot.
DB
I was given this volume for Christmas after I had read through the paperbacks 12 to 15 times.
Bruce O. Deming
It is a great design with runes and other decorations on the inside, and a fold out map.

It's a beautiful edition, but unless they've changed the manufacturing system, the binding swiftly comes loose and the book begins to lose pages, in my case during the very first read. Very disappointing.

Picked this edition up brand new about 15 years ago, I believe I purchased it from Amazon, must have been before I settled on a regular ID. I know I did not pay near as much as it sells for now, honestly I think I paid $30. If you can find it for a reasonable price it is well worth it. All three books are here, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King but packed in one book.

I own another earlier paperback edition of the 'Rings and have read it, along with the Hobbit three times in my life, I normally don't read a book more than once, the only other books I have read more than once are "The Source" by James Michener and "The Once And Future King" by T. H. White, I love big books.

Before high school I was not much of a reader, really only kid's books that I honestly don't remember, but one of the best things that happened in my life was an English class during my freshman year in high school, we had to read one book a week and write a paragraph review.

I LOVED THAT CLASS! I didn't cheat or cut corners(teacher even said we could use cliff's notes if we wanted), I actually read a book each week. We could pick anything and this was really my first exposure to adult literature.

One of the books I read in that class is "The Hobbit", which is really a children's book compared to "The Lord Of The Rings". But because of the Hobbit I also read the trilogy during the class. Needless to say I was reading a lot.

"The Lord Of The Rings" are my favorite books! I really feel that the best books are the ones that have a lot of research if not decades before they are written. 'Rings is easily Tolkien's lifetime achievement, which I know took decades to set up the world that LOTR is set in before Tolkien wrote LOTR.

It is a great design with runes and other decorations on the inside, and a fold out map. It smells like an older book, because it is one, but I actually find it to be one of its positive features. It has a sturdy binding and the print is easy to read. The design of the book gets you into the mood of the story, which makes the whole experience even more fun. I expect to get significant use out of it, and pass it on to the next generation to enjoy.

This beautiful volume (with slipcase and separate, foldout map) is a treasure. It contains the whole of the Lord of the Rings (with appendices) in a single volume. The red leather dovetails with the framing of the Lord of the Rings novel as the Red Book of Westmarch and so is a nice little "Easter Egg" for the die-hard fan.

This is a gorgeous book, very crisp and gorgeous. I had doubts buying it because of the type of cover it has.. but the only complaint I have is that they put the bar code sticker in layers on the slip case, they will be very difficult to remove. . But it's better than on the book :) it is a very heavy and gorgeous edition, the colors leap off the cover! I can't wait to see what my man thinks of it at Christmas!
