If you buy this, take note. The digital copies in this set will not work. The offer to get them expired in 2011. If I had known this, I would have bought just the Blu-Ray and not the digital copies too.

I can't really say anything bad about the movies themselves, great quality (audio/video) although they aren't the extended editions, a minor disappointment considering that if you want the extended editions, you likely already own them on DVD (now I own both versions of each film). My main disappointment is that the 3 bonus special feature DVDs are just that... DVDs. Why would I buy a blu-ray bundle to get DVDs?

I received the selection within a reasonable amount of time but was not sent the Digital copy with the Blue-ray extended edition.

It is ok but not more. Too many battles and not enough story line. Characters were not clearly defined. Too superficial.

I would have rated this higher however a giant sized chunk of this is simply the extended edition "posted" over on blu ray. I mean all the movies are still on 2 disks each. I thought Blu Ray could hold more data. I mean both my Hobbit Extended editions are on a single disk, so why are these LOTR extended editions on 2 seperate Blu Rays for each movie. I find that frustrating to change the disks 1/2 way through. Alot of the bonus features are also a port from the DVD's. The worth in buying this honestly is purely about a bit better sound output for digital audio systems and some minor clarity of motion and CGI animation on bigger screens. If you have blu ray and don't own it, then might as well, but LOTR is something one plans on watching only once in a great while, and one owns the extended dvd's be sure you know what you are expecting/not expecting before you shell out the $ on this.

Movies are great, of course. I knew that going in. However, I received the case heavily damaged. The blu-ray case is very thin and cheap, and on arrival, the hinge on which two of the three discs are on was broken entirely, with the sort of swivelly thing that holds them in place literally pierced through the back of the case. It's a god awful mess. The thing holding the discs fell out as soon as I opened it, but it's still not worth it for me to ship back, as I was wanting very much to watch these movies in Blu-ray today. (I've only ever seen them on DVD, and I've been re-reading the trilogy, the Hobbit, and the Silmarillion)
It didn't come in the normal Prime packaging for some reason, it came in thin bubble mailer.
In retrospect, I should have ordered the DVD set. It's probably more durable.

I am satisfied with the product, but because it is Region 2, i cannot watch it on my DVD player. I have to watch it on my laptop and plug that into my TV! This is very inconvenient! I realize that it was advertised as a Region 2 DVD set, but I, and many of the people i have talked to, had no Idea what a region code was, until i looked it up online when prompted by my DVD player to check for region code error! This is not something that a lot of people know about! You may want to include in the description that these DVD's will only play on a Region 2 DVD player! Other then that, there are no problems with the purchase. They work great, just inconvenient having to watch them through my computer! Explanation
