5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful collector's item for Lord of the Rings fans
I recently purchased this figure of Gandalf for a gift. It is one of the nicest 12" figures I've seen in a long time: the attention to the details of the face, the way the robe falls on the figure's body. This is definitely an item that will be worth much more than what it costs today in a few years time. Note: can't determine much about the item's durability. It's...

3.0 out of 5 stars Just leave it in the box!
I was just down right SAD when I received Gandalf. The robes look nothing like pictures I have seen from the movie. The beard is like a brilo pad and the hair so thick his hat won't stay on. Also when holding his staff there is no where to stick the sword except in his belt. My biggest problem is it will not stand up by itself and the figure came with no stand to use...

Poor Gandalf looks a little drunk leaning against my cube at work! I should have just left him in the box!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great For Any Fan, November 10, 2001

This is a must have figure for any Hobbit or Lord of the Rings fan.

Gandalf sports a wonderful dull grey cloak and robe tied by a brown, corded, rope belt. He has a long curly grey beard and pointy grey hat. He comes with his staff and sword and knapsack too.

A wonderful figure, definitely directed towards the Collector's market. This figure also bears a great resemblence towards the actor portraying this character; more so than the Arwen or Frodo figure.

The resemblance between the figure and Sir McKellen is striking; the figure looks just like Gandalf in the movie. The clothes are neat, nice looking (I especially like the braided belt), and generally well made. I wish Frodo's cloak had been made of similar, thinner material so it would lay on him better. Unfortunatly the hat won't stay on for love or money, and his hair...it needs a lot of work, perhaps a long soak in a sink of hot water to uncurl it a little, because as it stands, it's like contending with a force of nature. I'm very impressed with the articulation (I've never seen a figure like it with the same range of movement!), but somewhat disappointed that the hands and feet don't have the same ball-joint articulation as the Frodo figure does...and I'm surprised the feet are so small, as they make it slightly difficult to stand Gandalf. A sheath for Glamdring would have been nice, but it tucks nicely into his belt. The hair...I understand why his hair is the way it is, toy makers don't have much choice between CURLY and STRAIGHT when it comes to that...perhaps a trim alongside the edges of his beard would make it better. All told, I think they did a very good job on Gandalf, and for the most part I'm quite impressed.

This figure is a brilliant toy and collector`s item. When in the pack,Gandalf`s beard looks too big.But out of the box it is okay.
His posability is very well done indeed, but he has so mush posability in his arms,it is impossible to make him keep his arms in the air.He comes with his bag, staff, and Glamdring, his sword. He can be a littie hard to handle, seeing as he has a lot of clothing. One bad thing is that his pointed hat, will not stay on his head without you holding it there. And,his beard looks very good, but can be a bit untidy,so usually I tuck it into his belt. Also, the beard seems that if you pulled it it would come right out of his chin. But overall he is a brilliant figure and is well detailed(especially the belt and his boots). It is a brilliant collector`s item for Lord of the Rings fans like myself.A must for any Medievalist or Fantasy-lover too.One classy figure here!

The detail on this figure is fabulous. He is a good likeness of the character from the movie.

The articulation in his arms is incredible. You call roll his shoulders forward so that he hunches a bit. Someone mentioned that his legs are rather stiff. I only find that to be the case if you try to get him to sit with his knees together. All of the joints become easier after they're moved around a few times.

His hat is a little funky and doesn't sit right. I left it in the box. The rest of his costume is exquisite. His boots are stitched to his long underwear so they don't slip off.

He looks better than the picture. I really appreciate his 'real' hair and beard. After a few days and my fiddling his hair relaxed and looks great especially if you take a bit of the sides and get them to hang down alongside his beard.

I would say he is a collectible rather than a toy. The fabric of his boots and the edging on his robe would get nasty in a hurry if he were played with. The attention paid to the packaging suggests that he was designed for the adult collector.

In all I would say I am very pleased with this figure. Now, when are they going to make Saruman?

Don't let the photos on this site fool you, it looks a lot better in real life: The bottom of his inner coat has a distinct, original patterned hem, and makes the figure look more authentic than simply a "toy". Plus his boots are very detailed, with faux leather trimmings, shoe laces, and shiny soles. True, his hat just barely balances atop his head, but that's hardly a problem to me, especially since the rest of him looks so nice. I also love the way his body is articulated, and how nice his hair was arranged to go with his face. He doesn't stand on his own, true, but you can easily just buy a doll-stand to prop him up with. All in all, a very well-done Gandalf.

I wasn't expecting a christmas gift so elaborate at christmas!
This toy's so duribal it's a dream. Gandalf comes with
cloak, sword, staff, and hat. Even though the hat is a hassel
getting on his head this toy is worth it! Gandalf is a fine
gift to any toy collector. I enjoy it!

i ordered this toy on [...] about 2 weeks ago and it just came today. i have to say, i was amazed at how much fun this figure was. the clothing and stiching were awesome but there were some dangling strings so if you are one of those collectors who likes the toy neat, then you might want to cut the strings off. the hat was not as bad as ive heard of some reviews. if you push it onto his head lightly then your going to be amazed at how good he looks with the hat. for all you LORD OF THE RINGS fans, you should definetly buy this toy. 5 stars and theres no question about that.
