Recent purchases of The Hobbit 6" scale figures (The Bridge Direct) inspired me to revisit my older Toybiz collection. Now having both together I think each toy line has something to offer. TB offers outstanding detail whereas TBD gets back to basic functional articulation. No hand triggered "action" features that were often restrictive & frustrating. The biggest letdown with TBD is the sheer lack of volume as these Hobbit movies should have been a collectors dream!

This Orc Warrior stands 5.5" tall and is composed primarily of plastic with softer vinyl located at the shoulder & waist wraps. The facial sculpt is appropriately hideous & its outfit has good textured detail that is highlighted in brown & black. Articulation can be found at the neck (ball-joint), shoulders (hinged-swivel), biceps (cut-swivel), elbows (hinged), wrists & waist (swivel), Hips (T-joint), knees & ankles (hinged).

The box advertises "Axe Hacking and Arrow Launching Actions". This is accomplished by squeezing its left leg towards its right causing a quick 1/4 (L) turn of the waist as both arms vigorously snap down. I applaud TB and the extra effort that went into this design, and while I am sure it's fun for a child (till it breaks), for a static adult collection it's just annoying. Also, good luck trying to get that bow to fire those rubbery arrows.

It's important to note that the shoulders & hips can be ratcheted into other postures - the waist I am fearful of breaking. The figure has better balance than expected, and oddly, the right foot accepts one of those black (2.5") DC bases while the other needs a clear (2.75") McFarlane disk.
