I got this set on my birthday and I have a whole bunch of other guys. My friend that lives accross the street has some, too. We really like to play with them. Now I'm going to review each figure in the set.Lets start with my favorite, Aragorn: He is wearing his Gondorian clothes and he's got his Elvish hunting knife and Anduril. He doesn't have any action but he's got something like an action. He can hold his sword in both hands. The Aragorn in this set is the newest release. The diferences in him from the first one are: his costume is more detailed, his hair is browner, his joints are stronger and his face is a re-paint. Gandalf: The thing I like best about Gandalf is his hair; he's practically the only Gandalf with white hair. Also, his staff isn't as fat as the Two Towers version. His staff thrusting action is much better than any other one I've seen. He also has a cloth cloak and his Glamduring is much stronger. Legolas: Even though he is a re-pack of the FOTR version he is good. He's got his Mirkwood bow but as the other reviewer said, I think they put him in because he's the only Legolas with an action and he's got really blonde hair. Gimli: He also is a re-pack of the FOTR version. He's got a helm and he has a hatchet, throwing axe, walking axe and a double-headed battle axe. If you put one of the smaller axes in his right hand and squeeze his legs he can throw them. The Mouth of Sauron: This set is the only set that you can get the MOS in. He comes with a horse that has galloping action. The MOS, himself doesn't have action but he has a real cloth cape. The only letdown is that his sword is a little too short for him. Why I gave the set five stars for educational value is because it teaches people to use their imagination.

"There came a long rolling of great drums like thunder in the mountains, and then the braying of horns that shook the very stones and stunned men's ears. And thereupon the door of the Black Gate was thrown open with a great clang, and out of it came an embassy from the Dark Tower. And at its head there rode a tall and evil shape, mounted upon a black horse, if horse it was; for it was huge and hideous, and its face was a frightful mask, more like a skull than a living head, and it the sockets of its eyes and in its nostril there burned a flame. The rider was robed all in black, and black was his lofty helm; yet this was no Ringwraith but a living man. The Lieutenant of the Tower of Barad-dûr he was, and his name is remembered in no tale; for he himself had forgotten it, and he said: `I am the Mouth of Sauron.'" Unfortunately this scene could not make it to the theatrical version of Peter Jackson's Oscar-winning film. However, thanks to the extended version DVD to be released this fall we'll get to see it. For those collecting the action figures from the films, let me tell you that from the top of his spiky helm and grimacing mouth down to the mud-splattered forelegs of his horse, the Mouth of Sauron™ with Steed from the Black Gate of Mordor Gift Pack by Toy Biz does not disappoint! The other figures--Gandalf the White, Aragorn with Andúril Sword, Gimli, and Legolas--can each be purchased separately, but the only way to obtain the Mouth of Sauron is by purchasing this set. It's worth it!

This review is from: Lord Of The Rings: The Black Gate Of Mordor 5-Pack Deluxe Boxed Set (Toy)
This is a great gift pack. I love ToyBiz's LOTR figures, and this was definitely worth it.It includes four previously released figures (Aragorn, Legolas Gimli and Gandalf), and also one new figure. THE MOUTH OF SAURON!! Now, lets review each figure. LEGOLAS: He is a re-release of the FOTR figure. I have no idea why they decided to put him in rather than the ROTK Legolas in Rohan armor, but they did. (Perhaps because he is the only Legolas with an action feature.) However, he has a better paint job on his face, and his hair is more blonde than the original. He has dagger-slashing action. GIMLI: I do not have the original Gimli figure, but this is the one from FOTR. He is a nice figure, though. His face sculpt is right on, and his axes are awesome. He comes with a cape, and a removable helmet. He has axe-hacking action. ARAGORN: This is one of the nicest figures in the set, even if he is a repack. He is the Super Poseable Aragorn from ROTK, with some slight changes. His face is repainted, and looks slightly better than the original. He comes with the reforged sword Anduril, and his elvish dagger. His gondor armor is really nice and detailed. This is the best Aragorn figure out there, and a nice addition to the set. GANDALF: Once again, I did not have the original figure. I have seen it though, and I can tell you that this is the Gandalf from the ROTK line, but his hair is actually white this time. His face is very nice, and looks very similiar to the Gandalf from the movies. He comes with his sword and his staff, and has sword-slashing action. THE MOUTH OF SAURON. This guy is the main attraction. Now for the full review. This is my favorite from the set. He comes on a horse, so he is basically a horse-and-rider set. His face and head are great. However, like the previous reviewer said, his body is a bit lacking. As soon as I took him out of the pack, before his arm had been touched in any way, it fell off. I got it back on, but thats sorta wierd. He can stand up fine, though. The figure just looks very nice. His robes and cape are cloth, and are ragged and torn. He has a sword that is all black. His horse is fully armored and is equally detailed. The figure is really quite good, and is probably worth buying the set just for this figure. Overall, a nice set. If you are just starting your collection, gift sets like this are a good way to get going.

The Black Gate of Mordor gift pack comes with Legalos, Gimli, Gandalf, Aragorn, and The Mouth of Saroun.Legalos: This is a nice and detailed figure. He comes with his white knives, and his bow and arrows. His bow really works. When you move his legs his arm will come up. Overall I would rate this figure 4 stars. Gimli: This figure is not the most detailed. He comes with four axes. Like Legalos when you move his legs his arm will come up. Overall I would rate this figure two to three stars. Gandalf: This figure is VERY NICE. He comes with his staff and a very detailed Glamdring. When you press the button on his back one of his arms will come up. Overall I would rate this figure five stars. Aragorn: This figure is not as nice as the rest. The only things I like about this figure, are the hunting knife and the cloak. His hunting knife has its own little sheath. Overall I would rate this figure two and a half stars. Mouth of Saruon: This figure is one of my favorites. It is so detailed. His steed is nice too. His cloak is cloth, and he has a sheath for his sword. His horse has armor on it and sploches of mud. Overall I would rate this figure five stars.

When I saw this set, I knew I had to have it (I'm a big lord of the rings nut, and I like to collect as much as I can from the movie series). So I bought it, waited for it to arrive, and then I got it. Overall, I'm very pleased with this set. Lets go over the figures one by one.Aragorn: Pretty impressive. Can stand up easily, nice face paint, likeness is dead on. Only problem is that his cloak has a hard time staying on. Overall, an A Gandalf: Impressive. I like the battle look on his face, but the likeness is a little off (But still pretty darn good). His sword fits in his hand easily, but beware Gandalf's sleeve, as it has the possibility to snap off the end of Glamdrings handle if you are not careful. Why Toybiz didint fix this from the earlier Gandalf I have no idea. His cloth overcloak is OK. His staff is too small for his hands. It slips right through his grip, which is disappointing. But he can get into some great poses so overall, a B Legolas: Impressive. The likeness is dead on, and the detailing on him is great. I like how big his arrow quiver is and the detailing on his bow and twin swords. However, his left arm is permenently stuck out which is a bit dissapointing, and his hands cannot hold onto his twin swords (which slip right out of his hands)which is baffiling. Also, Legolas didint carry his Mirkwood bow to the Black Gates, which is a small mistake. But still, it's tall, stable and the detailing is great. Overall, a solid B+ Gimli: Quite impressive. Everyone's favorite dwarf comes with a removable helmet and mud soaked cape, carries four (!!!) axes and has an excellent likeness to movie Gimli. His axe slashing action is nice and simple, and he's easy to stand up. His cloak has a slightly hard time staying on his neck however, but overall, a solid A. The Mouth of Sauron: Ah yes, the big kahuna, this is the only place you can get him (until Toybiz sells him seperatly). The Mouth of Sauron is an impressive figure and is worth the price of this set to get him. I'm very impressed with the head (or helmet if you like) sculpt. His mouth alone is creepy to look at. He comes with black cloth robes around his waist and neck, so he looks menacing enough. He's easy to pose and his sword is easy to take out of it's sheath and put in his hands. He also stands up easily. The only problem I have is that the body details are a bit weak. His legs are bare, and his chest is only minutly detailed. But overall, an excellent figure. A solid A. The mouth of Sauron's steed: Everyone needs a big black menacing horse to get around on, so the Mouth of Sauron got his own to ride on. This horse is quite impressive. I love the detailing on its armor and how it stands up easily. And when you put the MOS on him, I like how the MOS's robes flow onto the horse, making both steed and rider look really menacing. The only letdown is that the galloping action is kinda weak. But overall, a great horse. A solid A. Overall, this is an impressive set. I highly recommend it.

Not one to dissapoint, ToyBiz have produced another fantastic box set of great action figures. By now I have almost the entire collection of LOTR figures that have been made since Fellowship, and the "Black Gate Of Mordor"is one of the best. The Gandalf figure is good, but personally I prefer the Two Towers sculpt. The Legolas figure is the same as the one in the Helm's Deep box set, but the figure itself is nicely painted, with good detail. Gimli and Aragorn are all from pre-existing sets aswell, but the main feature is the Mouth of Sauron, which I am very happy with. Very evil-looking and a great addition to the dark army. The horse that comes with it is detailed and very impressive. Overall, another good product from ToyBiz

the black gate of mordor is the coolest box set toybiz has released as of yet . though it is only a re release of aragon , gandalf , legolas ,and gimil the mouth of sauron and steed are worth the purchase . the m.o.s. is more articulated than any of the other horse and rider sets ( they gave him articulated legs insted rubber ). his robes are also cloth whitch makes him able to pose . the steed is also the regular horse with new armor . i also like that even though it is only in the extened dvd and book it may give toybiz an idea to continue the toy line by making action figures from the book . i give it 5 stars all around .

This gift pack includes a Legolas figure, a Gimli figure, an Aragorn figure, a Gandalf figure, and an exclusive Mouth of Sauron figure. For those that have seen the movie, you know there was no Mouth of Sauron. For those that have read the book, know there is. Aragorn fights and kills this foe, who was cut from the original movie in order to make the movie under four hours long. This figure will be seen in the Extended edition, and frankly, I can't wait to see him! Super imposing in the game, he must cut a dramtic character in the movie! This is must for any Lord of the Rings fan!

This Deluxe Box Set, in my eyes, is worth getting. I mean, the Mouth Of Sauron is straight Off the Hook! Though I would have rather seen the MOS as a Horse & Rider Set, I can't complain too severely. And actually, my only complaint(re-issues) is that I already have the other 4 figues that came in the box; but some others who may be first time LOTR Collectors who purchase this set may not have those figs, so thats cool. Whats one more re-issue gonna hurt anywayz. But like I said, the Mouth Of Sauron looks bitchin! So if you ain't got it, get it.
