The Lord of the Rings Tarot Book,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Lord of the Rings Tarot Book (Paperback)
As a lover of Tolkien's trilogy and of his mythology of Middle Earth, I found this tarot book very entertaining, easy to read and understand when compared to reading & understanding some of the Rider Waite tarot books. I found that this book flows smoothly from section to section and can hold a reader's attention and it incorporates enough background - storyline information to delight those who love his work and enlighten someone who is unfamiliar with Tolkien's work.

Please dont associate the name Tolkien with this,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Lord of the Rings Tarot Book (Paperback)
As a lover of Professor Tolkiens lifelong labour in Middle Earth, it saddens me to a great extent to see what the Professor himself feared might happen, coming true in a waste of paper such as this. Tolkien himself loathed most attempts at film productions of his work because they fell short of his vision of his masterpiece. No doubt the professor would have seen something like this to be a grossly regrettable misuse of something that has brought many so much joy for so many years. I cannot believe that the Tolkien Estate would authorize garbage like this to bear the name Tolkien. I believe i speak for Tolkien fans worldwide when i ask you to not associate the name Tolkien with garbage like this. Leave that to 900 psychic numbers and smoky palm reading dens. I guess the Professor shows even more of his eminent vision in his fear of predators seeking to exploit for personal gain something that took a lifetime to create.

Insult to both Tolkien and the Tarot,
By "duckieme" (Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Lord of the Rings Tarot Book (Paperback)
As numerous people have mentioned, Tolkien was a Catholic, but I don't think that would have anything to do with why he wouldn't like this deck, as the Tarot was invented and primarily used by the Catholic culture of medieval and Rennaisance Europe. As a historian, he would have appreciated that. This deck makes a mockery both of the ancient symbolism and complex history of the Tarot, as well as the beauty and mythic scope of Tolkien's works. The symbolism is all wrong, the artwork is mediocre at best, and all of the meanings of both Tolkien's works and the Tarot cards are completely twisted and taken out of context. If you are a serious Tarot reader or collector, or have any respect for the venerated author, don't buy this deck.
