Intense and Lovely, Hip and Strange!, November 11, 2004
This review is from: Lord of the Rinks (Audio CD)
Skates are rad, cool, bizarre, get into your blood. Melissa Dungan's wild and intoxicating vocals are both incredibly unique and a thrill to actually listen to, which is a rare combination nowadays. And the electronics are complex, chunky, heavy, psychological. The song "Trapavoid" is like taking a red sugar pill on a first date with someone you've been totally obsessively and anonymously in love with since 8th grade. It's like - "Finally!" "Green Vans" is both flagrantly vacant and really personal, it'll remind you of shopping for shoes in the early nineties with your best friend, and maybe a visit to the food court in the mall on a rainy day. In short, count yourself lucky if you have the guts to pick up this album!
