5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Study
I would recommend this study for a Christian of any level. In the western world, names are not as significant as they are in the middle eastern culture. Consequently, names don't mean as much to us as they possibly should.

This study takes you through, not only the names that God has been given by Himself and others, but WHY those particular names are used. Kay...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly Good Study!
If you're not a Calvinist (and I'm not), you are apt to be anywhere from irritated to irate over the first few studies. But be patient; there's still good information and insight there, and then you can move on to the other yummy chapters. The names of God give great insight into his character and will fill you with greater love, joy and reverence for the Self-Existent,...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Study, May 20, 2001
This review is from: Lord, I Want to Know You: A Devotional Study on the Names of God (Paperback)
I would recommend this study for a Christian of any level. In the western world, names are not as significant as they are in the middle eastern culture. Consequently, names don't mean as much to us as they possibly should.

This study takes you through, not only the names that God has been given by Himself and others, but WHY those particular names are used. Kay Arthur's books do not just tell you why, she has questions that are designed for you to go and learn for yourself. This is a great study method for both individual and group study. This way the knowledge actually becomes part of you. For the beginning Christian, this study helps you to learn more of God, His faithfulness, His characteristics, and such. This makes your personal relationship with Him all the richer. This also holds true for the more mature Christian. This is a study that does take some time, thought, research, and reading. But the most important part of this study (and any study that a Christian does) is prayer. Then you are inviting God to make Himself better known to you.

This study does take a commitment of time and energy. If you are looking for a study that makes you dig into your Bible in a deeper manner, get this one. You will be richly rewarded for the effort that you put into it. By the time that you are prayerfully done, God will be even more personal to you. Christ's words of John 15:15, "...I call you friends." will be even more of a reality of your life with Him.

This book helped me to come to know God more intimately. Such an intense study of the character, nature and attributes of God...that help those who want to know God up close and personal. Kay Arthur gave us the means to know that God is more than just a name, but His omnipotence is real, His omnipresence beyong what can be fathomed. In the Old Testament His people called on Him by His many names and it helped to understand how God is there in every aspect and every detail of our lives. This study was well written and delivers one into an arena that leaves you wanting to know more about the One True God.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will greatly enhance your understanding of God..., January 21, 1998
By A Customer
Studying what God says about Himself, based on the names He uses for Himself in the Bible, is not only very enlightening, but also really helps you to know that you are not putting your faith in an abstract God, but in a multi-dimensional God of great power and love, who is completely worthy of our love and devotion and is fully capable of caring for those He created, us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Study, April 21, 2002
This review is from: Lord, I Want to Know You: A Devotional Study on the Names of God (Paperback)
Studying the names of God is a great way to increase your love and devotion to Him, and this easy workbook will help you. Kay style of teaching allows you to discover the truth from Scripture for yourself instead of taking her word for it. The result is an exciting, multi-week focus on the God who gives us life and peace. He is worth knowing intimately!

There's also a beautiful coffee table version of this book, re-edited for crisper text and illustrated by Timothy Botts. If it's still in print, it's worth seeking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book highly recommended!, March 22, 1997
By A Customer
In this book, Ms. Arthur provides studies that help the reader to understand the meaning of severalnames used in the Bible to refer to God. Each study provides exercisesthat help the reader to examine the accompanying passage of Scripture, understand how a particular name for God is evident in the passage, and explore what the passage means for the reader personally. This is a good study book for those who study alone as well as for groups.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for group use, January 16, 2007
This review is from: Lord, I Want to Know You: A Devotional Study on the Names of God (Paperback)
If your small group, Sunday school, or other group is looking for a great study that keeps you in God's Word and applies everything discussed to the real-world, this is a great book. I went through the study with a group of 7th and 8th graders and thoroughly enjoyed it. Packed with Scripture and great discussion questions, there should be no lull in the interaction among your group members. And what could be more beneficial than studying the names of God and delving into a deeper understanding of His character and attributes? Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lord, I Want to Know You, January 2, 2009
This review is from: Lord, I Want to Know You: A Devotional Study on the Names of God (Paperback)
In response to the person who stated this book was a disappointment: as someone who has suffered sexual abuse, Kay's book was a powerful study for me. To learn about God in such a personal way brought much needed healing in my life. I recommend this book highly for self study or for group study.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and doable, December 19, 2007
This review is from: Lord, I Want to Know You: A Devotional Study on the Names of God (Paperback)
Our ladies Sunday school class has been working through this book together. The chapters are about the right length to do in a 45 minute class. We read the chapters and think about the questions during the preceeding week then discuss together. We have found the book to be an excellent study of the names and character of God and may do another of the books in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars No God if you don't Know God, October 28, 2007
This review is from: Lord, I Want to Know You: A Devotional Study on the Names of God (Paperback)
These are the Hebrew names that the chosen people called on the God of our salvation. He is a God who sees, is solomn, is everywhere, is a provider, the most high God, the Lord of Hosts, is the Lord of battles, He is the all sufficient One. He is GOD!
Great teaching tool to understand and know who God is and how He can be all these things in your & my life.
