As a boy growing up in the 70's, I was awash with a steady wave of Soul music from my mother's album collection. On Sundays, we would listen to all sorts of gospel music, but I recall one in particular that was my mom's favorite. It was "The Lord Will Make A Way" by Al Green. We wore that audio cassette tape out until it literally broke from overuse. We have been unable to replace it...until now. Some 30 years later, I found it here on Amazon.com.

Every tune here is a classic. From the title track, to the uplifting and upbeat tempo of "Saved", to my personal favorite, the captivating "I Have a Friend Above All Others". Mr. Green brought the same gut-wrenching emotion to his gospel music as he did his secular artistry. The haunting moans and falsettos acompanied by bluesy guitar riffs and organ grooves that were Al's signature style are all here. The result: music that you can truly feel, deep down inside. This is a must for any Al Green fan. My mom will be delighted that I found it again after all this time.

while I Miss the R&B/Pop Side of Al Green the Artist His Gospel Material isn't to be overlooked.this a Double Cd on one&it brings so much power&Soul.the first track alone "The Lord will Make a Way somehow" is Classic Al Green&to me is as Important as His Past Great Songs.

The "His name is Jesus" track is worth the price of this CD alone. I'm so glad there's a reissue as I had the original album in the early '80s, loaned it to someone and never got it back. I have been singing that song to myself for years, and I desperately wanted another copy. Now we have it. Thank you!!!

Um, does anyone else think that Alana Morrisette might have borrowed something from Al Green's "In the Holy Name of Jesus" in her song "You outta know?" Not talking about lyrics or religious bent, more about a particular vocal riff.

Delighted to see this reissue! Contains the powerful cut--His Name Is Jesus. These two albums on this single CD reissue are the absolute best of Al's gospel music. And in my humble but accurate opinion, heh heh, his gospel releases are superior to his secular releases. You can reallllly feel his soul and spirit poured into his work here. If you or a loved one likes Al Green, don't pass up this two Grammy winning albums on a single CD reissue!

I am not much of an Al Green fan and don't know "black gospel" or "R&B" that well. I just happened to have the Higher Plane record years ago and thought it was mesmerizing !

A couple songs that I didn't particularly go for, but the rest showed me why Al is so highly regarded. "His Name is Jesus" is one of my all time faves !

Just my two cents. I don't know the "Lord Will Make a Way" tracks at all.
