3.0 out of 5 stars More like collectors items than playthings
Boromir and Lurtz weren't what I expected when I received them. Boromir wasn't at all as good as I had assumed. His horn-blowing action didn't work, he couldn't stand up on his own, his sword was bent, and his shield didnt fit in his hand. He is well-designed and sculpted, nonetheless. Lurtz, the overall better figure, was very good except for his arrow-firing action,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Impressive Figures, December 23, 2001

Wow...I got these before the movie came out, and once I saw it, it made the figures so much more meaningful. This is the pack that comes with Lurtz, the Uruk-Hai created by Saruman the Wizard, and Boromir, man of Gondor and member of the Fellowship of the Ring.

The figure that impresses me the most is Lurtz. If you have seen the movie, Lurtz kinda sticks out in your mind as holding a bow and arrow (I won't give any spoilers for those who have seen the movie). This figure features the most realistic arrow-shooting action I have seen on an action figure to date; it comes with four arrows. In Lurtz's left arm is a bow, and when you load an arrow through it, put the string in a little groove, and fit the end into his hand, there is a button on the back that causes his right arm to move out, releasing the arrow, which I have gotten to go about two feet max from the figure. It is amazing. And the detail is astonishing, right down to the minute stitches on the quiver. The only thing that disappointed me was that sometimes the right arm would pop off, but it popped right back on very easily; I am a hardcore player with my toys, so that might have had something to do with it.

Boromir, I am sorry to say, isn't quite as good as Lurtz. First of all, the packaging was wrapped around his sword, so it was totally bent out of shape when I got it, and to date I haven't been unable to straighten it. Because of this, it won't fit into the scabbard. This could only have happened to me (wouldn't that just figure), but who knows. Well, anyway, he comes with a sword, shield, cape, and horn. A button on his back causes one arm to raise up, one arm to go down, and his head to turn to the side. Another complaint is that the sword wouldn't fit readily into either hand. It fell out of his left and wouldn't go except with extreme forcing into the right. The shield could go either way because it clips into the hand. The horn hangs around his neck. Once again, the detail is incredible.

Ask and you shall receive: thanks to my Birthday Wish List, I am the proud owner of Boromir and Lurtz! My office paperwork can now pile up as I movie-istically reinact the final fateful battle between Orc and Man of Gondor when I'm supposed to be working....

The details are incredibly close to the versions seen onscreen in Fellowship of the Ring. Both costumes are faithful in oufit and weaponry to their acted counterparts, almost eeriely. Figures are fully jointed and can be made to stand on their own. "Battle" actions allow for wielding weapons.

Due to the death of both charaters at the end of FotR, these are going to be a bit rare and are disappearing fast!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Departure of Boromir, September 1, 2002
A Kid's Review

This set of two is awesome. Both of which look just like the characters. Boromir's clothes are very well done. He comes with a sword, a clip on sheath, a removeable cloak, a horn, and a shield. He is very sturdy. He hasn't broken yet. His horn fits perfectly in his hand. I wish that it was the same with his sword; however, once his sword is in his hand, oho, it won't come back out again unless you pull very hard. His shield would fit in his hand very nicely if his fingers weren't so thick. It stays very nicely on his back, though. His cloak doesn't really stay on very well, but it will do. I have some difficulty getting him to stand up on his own. Fortunately all you have to do is get him to sit on the flaps that hang down from his vest. Then he looks like he is standing up.
Lurtz comes with a bow, three useable arrows, and one arrow to hold all of the other arrows in the quiver. Lurtz's armor is very detailed and very accurate according to the movie. All you have to do is stick one of the useable arrows through the loop on his bow, put the string into the groove on the end of the arrow, make him hold the notch between his two fingers push the button on his back, and look for the arrow you just launched. He stands up very well on his own because he has very lage feet. They are, all in all, very fun to play with if you are that sort of person, and you can display them if you wanted to and it will look cool.

I think this toy is fun, but I have one complaint. Lurtz's arm is
not strong enough to pull back the bow like it's suppost to. Also
, what's so educational about toys. The figures look very realistic, though.

I love these extraordinary figures. They are so detailed and specially crafted that it really makes me think of the movie. And Boromir's shield has exactly the same markings as in the movie! Lurtz even has stitching on his quiver. This is truly a great collecter's item and worth owning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool figures, January 12, 2002
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

Lurtz is one of my favorite LOTR figures. (Gandalf is the best one). Lurtz's arrow-firing action is cool, when it works. The arm is very difficult to pull back by pushing the button. Otherwise, it's a good figure. Much better than Star Wars figures ever were. I'm also impressed by the resemblence to the actual character in the movie

Boromir might as well have not been included in this set. ... The action is very stupid and doesn't work very well. The only plus is that the paint job is very good. I only use him for display.

This toys will make you have lots of hours of fun and more fun. They are really well done. The only thing that I have to say them is that they are great.

Good quality, the material is nice, and they are really close to the movie characters. Don't miss this opportunitie. Won't be dissapointed.

... Keep it up! Both of these figures are awesome and look exactly like they do in the film! Finally I have Sean Bean as Boromir and Lurtz! The detail on both of MY figures are flawless. The action features really don`t work but that doesn`t bother ME. Lurtz`s arrow shooting works if you pull his arm back by yourself. I hope every Lord of the Rings fan gets there hands on this truly incredible set just ot because this set is based on the big battle scene in the film but simply because both figures are just incredible to display with all of the other LOTR figures!
