4.0 out of 5 stars Gimli, December 20, 2008
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Gimli (Toy)
The splinter/box he came in was dented in 2 places, the figure remains in good shape though. His "coat" is brown, not blue like it shows in the photo.

I have to commend ToyBiz on a couple of things. First, I'm very pleased that they seem to be committed to continuing the LOTR line long after the movies have left the multiplex. There are still SO many great characters that have not yet been rendered in six-inch plastic! And if there aren't any more movies to look forward to, the toy line is the next best place for me to get my LOTR fix!

Secondly, I'd also like to thank ToyBiz for continuing to improve on their designs. Especially in the area of articulation. The innovation of the double elbow and knee joints are really cool and allow for a much more natural range of movement. And the same can be said for the improved ankle joints - with some figures having double joints that rock side to side as well as front to back ... and others, the Hobbits in particular, being jointed for the very first time. The improved articulation is a real boon for those of us who don't care at all about the "mint in box" packaging and just want to tear open the blister pack and play with our new toys!

And this Gimli figure in particular is nice because it's probably the best Gimli they've done. He's got all the fine sculpture and paint details we're used to seeing on the ToyBiz LOTR figures AND he's easily the most dexterous of the Gimlis so far.

My only complaint is that his tunic isn't nearly as blue on the figure as it is in the pictures (or in the movie, for that matter). It's a very cool shade of azure blue in the film, but when you look at the actual figure, it's kind of a muted gray. But apart from that, he's great.

Anyhow, thanks again, ToyBiz!
