Rock n roll has always been a huge factor in skater culture, and the new CD reflects that, old school style. In addition to the Social Distortion track, Geffen band Rise Against also contributes a cover of Black Flags blistering punk anthem, "Nervous Breakdown."
The bulk of the CD consists of vintage classics, including: the Jimi Hendrix Experience, "Fire;" David Bowies "Suffragette City;" Nazareth with "Hair of the Dog;" the Stooges, "T.V. Eye;" Foghat, "I Just Want To Make Love To You;" Ted Nugents "Motor City Madhouse;" T Rex with "20th Century Boy;" Joe Walsh, "Turn To Stone;" Sweet, "Fox On The Run;" the Allman Brothers Band, "One Way Out;" Rod Stewarts "Maggie May;" Deep Purple, "Space Truckin;" Sparklehorse, "Wish You Were Here;" and Iggy Pops "Success."
"Lords of Dogtown," starring Emile Hirsch, Victor Rasuk and John Robinson and Heath Ledger, tells the story of a group of teenage surfers from a tough neighborhood known as "Dogtown" in Venice, California who pioneered a revolutionary new style of skateboarding in the 1970s. Riding the waves at the Pacific Ocean Park pier, the Z-Boys, known for their aggressive style and hard street attitude, combined the death-defying moves of surfing with the art of skateboarding and became overnight sensations and local legends. With empty pools as their canvas, the Z-Boys paved the way to what is today referred to as "extreme sports," and created a lifestyle that became a worldwide counterculture phenomenon.

I just saw the movie 20 min. ago and lets just say its tres tres tres fab! the soundtrack had me almost out of my seat and my friends looking at me like i was a loon- its ok to dance to Sabbath's Iron Man and Foghat trust me
and although the only Pink Floyd song *was* covered we can for give the band b/c at least it was well done(ish) and it wasn't some *My Chemical Romance*-type-band (*gag*) b/c lets be honest here- it wouldnt be a movie of the 70s without Pink Floyd... And finally: I don't think i'll ever listen to our dear Jimi Hendrix's Fire the same way again (in a good way) however, being in high school, I know it will be harder to get the younger types to warm up to the movie and its soundtrack which is unfortunate as they will be missing out- don't buy the next crap Yellowcard or (god forbid) A Perfect Circle - buy this album for a nice sampler of REAL rock n' roll and move onwards and upwards from there oh yes and this is my dad's amazon so its not some weird old guy- i'm Penny Lane *you know you love me!*

Great movie and soundtrack!,

I saw this movie on Sunday, and went straight out to buy the cd afterwards. I'd heard good things about the music before the movie came out, and liked the sountrack of "Z Boys". I'd recommend this to anyone that likes/listens to classic rock. Every song brought back an image of a scene from the film, and of my own personal memories. A must have if you liked the movie!

Rockers' paradise,
This review is from: Lords of Dogtown (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful stroll down memory lane for any rock enthusiasts who have reached the stellar age of 50, or are plus or minus a few years. Every song dropped me back into my youth and into some hormone-fueled state from my teens -- wonderful stuff if you like to relive those years!
