5.0 out of 5 stars A True Classic, January 19, 2007
This review is from: Lords of Light: The Path of Initiation in the Western Mysteries (Paperback)
I think this is one of my all time favorite books on the Western Mystery Tradition. Mr. Butler's unassuming tone and incredible wealth of knowledge make this an important stepping stone in understanding the mysterious. As a person you will fall in love with his demeanor; as a teacher you will be in awe of his skills. This is one you won't be disappointed with.

Excellent! This is one of the best, if not THE best, book on the Western Mysteries that I have ever read ( and believe me I have read a LOT in 30+ years) Mr. Butler's style of writing is so easy to understand and follow. The author is, in my opinion, one of the best teachers in the Mysteries that I know of. It is a great lose that he has passed on so soon. The chapters on "The Western Tradition - The Withdrawn Order - Woven Paces and Waving Hands" or very informative and enlightening. There are five chapters on "Training the Personality" which are priceless! Everyone who is searching to "Know Thyself" should read and study this over and over again. Also, there is a "Questions and Answers" at the end of each chapter which helps to clarify some of the points made in the lectures. This is a wonderful book and I would recommend it to all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must BUY!, February 27, 2007

I have to agree with the other reviewer. This is indeed a true classic and worth keeping in your library. The tone of these Lectures which he gave at the Ibis Fraternity in Devon England just 6 months before he left this world, is unasuming and self deprecating. There is so much wisdom in his words that it is precious worth reading and reading again. This is definitely a must buy

W. E. "Ernie" Butler is alongside Dion Fortune, Gareth Knight, Dolores Ashcroft Nowicki when it comes to esoteric authorship.
He has an interesting way of putting things in simple words, that are not overly heavy with symbols and foreign words
which newcomers might find confusing. I was especially glad to see him assisting a fledgeling esoteric group in the U.K.
after turning over the Servants of Light to the capable hands of Dolores Ashcroft Nowicki. More like this one please!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars W. E. Butler's Last Published Book For A Long Time, August 16, 2010
This review is from: Lords of Light: The Path of Initiation in the Western Mysteries (Paperback)
This was W. E. Butler's last published work until recently and it is actually very different from his previous works as it deals with the shape magic may take in the future and it is filled with ideas and suggestions. Like all his books, this is a treasure. I was very pleased when many more of his unpublished essays are being published in 'An Anthology of Occult Wisdom", 'An Anthology of Occult Wisdom Volume 2', and 'An Anthology of Occult Wisdom Volume 3'. All three are available from the USA Amazon site or directly from Datura Press: [...]

Transcripts of a series of lectures given by W.E.Butler in a thought provoking and very entertaining style.Being a member of the Liberal Catholic Church myself,it was a bit of a surprise to find out he was a priest in the very same Church, and made reading it (for me anyway) all the more interesting.Although,I would have to say,it may not be everybody's cup of tea.
