This Book is Forbidden,
By Warner Scroggins (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lords of the left-hand path: A history of spiritual dissent
Lords of the Left-Hand Path: A History of Spiritual Dissent by Stephen E. Flowers, Ph.D. is a comprehensive rundown on all the major Left-Hand Path movements in recorded history and the personalities that shaped them. Here is a literal textbook showcasing not only the histories, but the actual beliefs and teachings of ancient cults, forbidden religious sects, medieval heretics, Faustian libertines and modern occultists.
Dr. Flowers clearly defines the difference between the benign white-light mysticism of the Right-Hand Path and the more volatile realm of the Left-Hand Path, and devotes his emphasis to the latter. Philosophers of the dark side, Satanists, even the Nazis themselves are examined with unheard-of objectivity and detail. With extensive bibliographical notes and numerous useful diagrams and illustrations, this book strips away the cloak of confusion and mystery surrounding these highly controversial subjects with tremendous clarity and insight. This is not a sensationalist propaganda piece or an oversimplified work of condemnation from an outside source. Perhaps the most "disturbing" aspect of this book is not its subject matter, but the disparity between the lurid myths attributed to its subjects and the reality discovered under the light of diligent scholarship. Thus this book is truly "forbidden." It earns my highest possible recommendation.

More Junk By The Master Of Junk,

This is a very poor history of Satanism. Many books cover it in greater detail with better information. The modern aspect of the LHP, only seems to involve two organizations, Church of Satan and Temple of Set. It appears no one else had organizations involved in Satanism. What this book really is and has the nerve to state is, the Temple of Set is the greatest magical order of all times. It is nothing more then an advertisement for the Temple of Set.
Flowers AKA Edred Thorson, has always lied in critical areas of study. Writing complete falsehoods.Being Second in Command of the Temple of Set, but NOT following anything but European based devils, as he stated makes his position very odd! Temple was sooooo powerful that when Nazi Magic Practitioner Flowers wanted to publish his Rune book, an almost exact copy of an existing German text, right down to the chapter page drawings and book format in general. But there is more, he could not get it published by anyone but, his jewish wife's father-in-law , that owned Weiser Publishibg. Flowers a professor at the University of Texas at Austin. For years published terrible quality booklets on Runes and Nazi magic. Half pages, typed on a standard type writer, that were hard to read because of the tiny type. Really bad quality for a professor with access to computers. These books and their more recent books are super funny. Detailing there all normal people seeking the same as everyone else in life. Even their S&M Magic Book is so short, poorly written, without any detailed practices whatsoever, that anyone reading their books, must conclude they know nothing. Never is any practical "how to" information ever given. The reason for this is, they really know nothing! His books are packed with very tainted information on very bad people that he tries to make misunderstood good intentioned people. To out right lies like about Rotto Rahn, an SS Officer that found out about the mass murders going on in the camps and was man enough to comitt suicide after witnessing the horrors done by the Great Aryans. Find out the facts on the Temple of Set by readying "The Magicians" by Gini Scott. There you will find the truth about this group. These people think they have done so much for occult thinking, yet none of their Inner books are available to the public. Their membership figures are a joke, Hell House in Hollywwod closed after only a few months in business. Unlike the Church of Satan that published their beliefs, they offer none.It this also FASCINATING that the two Leaders of Set are both living off salaries from the US Government, NOT from manifesting wealth through their so-called great powers. I think that says it all. One was a Military Col. and the other a professor at University of Austin, Tx. I guess Set does not reward his followers with much. The worst error this book makes, is NOT listing the many other Satanists & LHP people that are active, in the past and recently. More of the authors typical technique of NOT telling the complete story. That would be telling people about other groups they could join, after all this is just a BIG AD for the Temple of Set. If your a researcher looking for bits and pieces, there is information here that cannot be found elsewhere. But, you need to be very careful in believing any of it is true....These people need a lot of help. Why Tx allows a satanist to teach in one of their universities, is a mystery to me. |
