5.0 out of 5 stars Another good Fifth Doctor book from virgin, February 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this book not knowing at all what I was getting as it didn't have any reviews on it yet, and I was very pleased on the quality of the story. These Virgin books have proven to be far better than the more recent BBC missing adventure line. The story feels like it really should have been in between Resurrection of the Daleks and Planet of Fire, as it has a decent amount of violence and goes into some nice detail on setting up a not completely foreign society. Lords of the Storm starts with the Doctor and Turlough stopping off on an Earth colony to make some repairs on the TARDIS. They soon become embroiled in some strange goings on concerning treatment of an alien virus and the colony's power station located on a nearby moon. Turlough sets out to find out who or what is behind the strange illnesses and the Doctor, along with the local head of state's daughter/pilot, head to the moonbased power plant. They both come up with the same answer, Sontorans! The Sontorans have decided that the solar system that contains the colony that the Doctor has landed on is vital to their war with the Rutans, but it's not as straight forward as all that. This time around the Sontorans have a few tricks up their sleeve, especially a specific major named Karne. The Doctor learns that the Sontorans have resurrected some ancient secrets and are planning to destroy the entire system, and in the confusion they capture his TARDIS. Then the Rutans arrive and with time running out, the Doctor must preserve the existance of the Earth colony and ensure that niether the Rutans or the Sontorans gain an advantage in their war. Whether that be strategically or through his TARDIS.
I was very pleased with the feel of suspense, action, espionage, etc... in this book. It should be a classic in this line
