Biography

Clannad are a group from Ireland who fused traditional folk music with a pop sound and introduced Irish folk music and language to the world.

Members of the Brennan and Duggan families make up the band, taking their name from the Irish Gaelic for ‘family from Dore’ or ‘Clann As Dobhar’. The group started out playing on the folk festival circuit. A prize at one of the events was a record contract;… Read more in Amazon's Clannad Store

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

The air is dreamy, the mood is mystical, the sound drifts slowly over a wash of synthesizers and layers of voices. It is that indefinable, new age, "Celtic" sound that wraps around artists like Enya. Clannad have great singers, great musicians, and even some great ideas. But by the time they got to making Lore, they had developed a wispy atmosphere, to the point of sounding like they were recorded under a bale of cotton. If you like your Celtic music with personality, with acoustic driven energy and a bit of dancing, then this album, like so many others in the genre, will drive you out of the room. If Celtic means soft, relaxing mood music, then this Clannad album is for you. - -Louis Gibson

5.0 out of 5 stars Truely inspiring album, January 20, 2003

This review is from: Lore (Audio CD)
This was the first album I purchased of Clannad's. I was first interested in this group after learning that Maire (lead singer) was Enya's sister. I love the atmospheric effects and impressive vocals of this album and truely enjoy it, even though I do not speak gaelic yet. I would recommend this album to anyone interested in new age celtic music. If you are looking for more traditional celtic music without as much of a new age emphasis, I would recommend the Chieftans. It is definately an album worthy of being in your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favourite Clannad album, July 11, 2000
This review is from: Lore (Audio CD)
This HAS to be my favourite Clannad album and one of my favourite albums! Croi Croga's beautiful chanting is very haunting along with the whole song! Alasdair MacColla has that vibrant Celtic beat along with an updated tune and Broken Pieces is absolutely beautiful!
