1.0 out of 5 stars DONT DO IT
No no no. I read the reviews here. I was tempted by the 5 star ratings. I am all about good regional bands. But this--UNCLE already. "Like nothing you've ever heard before"? Maybe so, but if you can imagine Widespread suffering the misfortune of having to back Edwin McCain some cold and dreary early May Saturday at Blockbuster Pavillion, you really...

i have been a huge strangefolk fan for a few years and this was the first cd that i had ever heard by them. i loved it then, and i love it now...they are amazing musicians, and they just keep getting better and better. this music leaves you with such a strong, euphoric feeling that makes you want to listen to them forever. *they are even better live, so if you like the cd, you should go to their shows!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing like these folks., February 22, 1999
This review is from: Lore (Audio CD)
Being a recent Strangefolk fan, and a long time Dead and Phish fan, I must say that this band carries a legacy to a new level. Their amazing lyrics and heartfelt music just can not be beat, whether in the studio or on the stage.

4.0 out of 5 stars a prize of any collection, August 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lore (Audio CD)
Word of mouth is what introduced me to Strangefolk. Usually i like to see a band before i commit to their album, but I had heard so many positive reviews of this jam-based band from Vermount, that i purchased the CD the first time i saw on a shelf. Without a doubt, this is in the top five CDs i own. Strangefolk has a way of hypnotizing you and shifting any mood you might be in to a feeling of good will. Vocally, Strangefolk is the best band in the nation today. If this band ever makes it big, Reid Genauer will be put in the elite class of Roger Daultry and Freddy Mercury. With the back up pipes of Erik Glocker and Jon Trafton, Strangefolk produces a sound that will take you to another level. Instumentally, the band is highlighted by Trafton (aka, the kinder and gentler Chuck Garvey), who proves himself will in So Well and ...As. Highlights of the album include Lines and Circles (which will stick in your head for weeks) and Alaska, a ballad about the purity of mother nature. While they are a bit too long for radio play, they are perfect examples of why bands like strangefolk, moe., and the ominous seapods are taking over American music.

This CD is what rock music should be. Quality songs with quality instrumentation! I usually listen to it straight through (possibly skipping one or two songs at the most.) So Well is an awesome closing song with an incredible jam. Although not really a theme album, I think its theme would be great songs! I disagree with Brian M in regards to them being better than Phish or even comparing them (they are much different) - in closing- Buy this albums (homegrownmusic.com) is one way for this and a bunch of other bands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Kept Secret, May 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Lore (Audio CD)
Strangefolk is definately one of the country's best kept secrets. Their music is like nothing you could find anywhere else. They are truely one of the most original jambands, with the one of the most unique and addicting sounds. Buy any cd or go to any show and you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lore is an amazing CD with cool lyrics, July 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lore (Audio CD)
Lore has awesome songs and cool lyrics, Reid Genauer (jen-hour) has a beautiful voice and as the lead guitarist he seems as if he could play for hours without a break. His lyrics are poetic and he talks the way that he sings, very poetic. Erik Glockler does some vocals like on "Rather Go Fishin" and others. Mainly he plays the bass. I don't think that he couldn't do a better job. (But being his sister I have to say that for him) Jon Trafton is the guitarist, he does a wonderful job he has many skills that will get him far.

I reccomend that you buy Lore and it's follow-up CD, Weightless in Water. END

I love this cd! This is some of the best music I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. Very unique tunes, most outstanding musicianship, and from the first time I heard the stuff, I felt like I had stumbled on to a treasure. A very fun band to see live. I'm telling you man, it gets in your bones.

5.0 out of 5 stars A seasoned ear, January 7, 2002
By
Dolce (Boulder, Colorado United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lore (Audio CD)
Lore has been on the top of my play-list for 6 years. While the band may be a bit more unique live, this album is simply one of the best I've heard in a long time. If you are close-minded and want bands to sound the same live, look for the Strangefolk self titled demo that pre-dated Lore. It is full of jams and creativity not to mention "FUNK." It is my opinion that we are in a musical period where there are too many so called "underground" bands that in reality are mainstream. They have some good stuff here and there, but lack consistency. Ask yourself; How many discs do I have that I consistently play front to back?
Lore works, and they are nice guys.
