I first heard Jovanotti while visiting Italy in March of 1997. He had a very popular hit single, Bella, from the CD titled "LORENZO 1997 - L'ABERGO". I was immediately attracted to his style and bought the CD before leaving for the States. Much like L'Albergo, I was pleasantly suprised with the wide range of styles found on the 90-95 collection. He is a master at blending rap with crisp brass and rythmic African beats, with a mellow ballad or two thrown in. The CD is a treat the first time through and will grow on you the more you listen.

A must for any International Alternative music collection.

This is one of, if the not the best, CD I own. I fell in love with Jovanotti in 94 when his "Lorenzo 1994" album came out, and since bought all his albums, older and newest, and they are all my favourites. In this compilation you will find a mix of many styles, ranging from pure old-school hip-hop to pop, cutting through funk, jazz, reggae and world music. In addition to his beautiful music, Jovanotti has some of the best and most meaningful lyrics I have ever heard. If you don't speak Italian, it is a big loss, but I am sure you will be able to appreciate the music nevertheless since it is, for lack of a better description, all but perfect!

One of the amazon reviews claims the album is dated. I strongly disagree. 1990-1995 RACCOLTA is a compilation CD (obviously) that excludes the very dated and very juvenile (but often amusing) earlier efforts of this phenomenally popular Italian Hip Hop singer/songwriter. In the beginning, he appeared to be merely an (even goofier) Italian Beastie Boy(s, an obvious influence). Lorenzo Cherubini, better known as "Jovanotti", is a very positive, upbeat and somewhat hippie rapper with often intelligent and politically progressive lyrics set to catchy, often unique tunes. Check out his music video clips on his official website (I don't think amazon will let me put the address in here, so do a web search; ".it" is for Italian sites). As a recent music column in an Italian weekly stated, Jovanotti often upstages all other performers even when performing a ridiculous song. One could say his voice is "bel niente", i.e. certainly not pretty or strong in a purely physical sense, but I've grown to love it and have great affection for his positive life force and what I imagine to be a lively spiritual influence on Italian music fans. And to the same reviewer mentioned above: I bought this CD in '95 and have been enjoying it for 10 years now. Lorenzo is about 40 now (2006), but the music will appeal to much younger, and quite possibly much older fans.

The rap which Jovanotti offers is a melodic alternative to the American version of the same musical style...

Jovanotti's eclectic mix of rock, rap, and funky beats just gets you pumped up. There is not a single song on this album that I don't enjoy. They're all awesome, as is this great Italian rocker.

It's fun to hear Italian lyrics flowing over trans-world rhythms in a funky, hip-hop manner. Jovanotti has a positive, upbeat take on the world. It's great for learning Italian. This is his best since it spans his early career; "Capo Horn" is less fun although it has a few gems. If you don't speak Italian you'll wish you did, and wonder at how well it raps.

I was lucky enough to become addicted to jovanotti whilst I spent a year in Italy. The beat contageous and the lyrics (if youre fortunate enough to understand) inspirational. Take time to really listen, positive thought surrounded by a funky beat, everything from acid jazz to pop, whatever your musical taste it will make you move.

This is probably the best Italian singer/song writer in Italian music.
even if you don't understand Italian, your going to love the music, absolutely fun to listen to. rock, hip hop, pop it's in here. awesome!, your going to sing and dance I promise you.

This is a fantastic compilation....all the best on one CD. This brings me back to the 1990s when Jovanotti's sound was as unique as the man himself. Fun, melodic, truly a great addition to world music CDs. Now get up and dance!
