5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this album
Buy this album. Trust me. I'm a musician, italo-argentinian, and i can tell you that this band sounds terrific. The lyrics are beautifull, and it's absolutly the best album of Jovanotti. Open your head and listen to this talented italian musician. Check Out the songs "Per te", "Dolce fare niente", "Un raggio di sole".

4.0 out of 5 stars The many faces of Jovanotti, August 1, 2001

Ever since I first listened to Jovanotti's album "Lorenzo 1990-1995 Raccolta," back in 1997 I've been struck by the many faces of this Italian "rapper" - to me his band's creativity is not limited to this genre. In this album, our beloved "ragazzo fortunato" doesn't go overboard with his long-winded percussion experiments (like in "Lorenzo 1997 - L'Albero"). This opens up space for heart-felt songs like my favorite on the CD, "Un Raggio di Sole" (with a rock beat on the drums, and a 70's disco sound to the bass, and anything BUT rap), and "Per Te". The album, however, isn't all puppy dogs and sunshine - he really grooves with songs like "Funky Beat-O" and rhymes like mad in "Dal Basso," which includes some equally cool English lyrics. His music is a great introduction to what's going on now in original Italian pop. ...

4.0 out of 5 stars Jovanotti releases an album with breadth and soul, December 17, 1999
This review is from: Lorenzo 1999: Capo Horn (Audio CD)
After his earlier Italo-pop and his recent experiments with African-influenced music, Lorenzo Jovanotti has released Capo Horn which is no doubt his best album to date. From the gentle start of "Per te" (for you) dedicated to his daughter, to more up beat numbers such as "Un raggio di Sole" (A ray of sunlight) the album really holds together with a wide range of influences, from jazz to funk to heavy rap. At one point he even inserts a short excerpt from the Sugarhill Gang's original "Rappers' Delight" (He did the whole song in his concert tour of Italy).

This is an album that is good the first time you hear it but gets better with every listening - it has so many influences, and yet it reminds me of another album of a completely different genre - Malcolm MacLaren's "Duck Rock" - that also has a crazy assortment of styles.

This album contains much rap, but it is not the gloomy rap in the German Style, it is rap full of the joy of life, full of irony but ultimately happy. I cannot yet give it 5 stars because I've only had it a week and listened to it about 10 times and there are other albums that I know last the test of time for me (e.g. Carol King's "Tapestry", and Clifford T Ward's "Home thoughts from Abroad", and Miles Davis's "All Blue"), but it has to be worth a good 4 and a half!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bellissimo!, September 25, 2000

Jovanotti is getting better and better all the time. You can definately see how he and his music have matured (from his songs "Per Te" which he wrote for his daughter, and "Raggio di Sole" which was for his wife) and gotten better. This is definatley his best CD yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lorenzo grows up, September 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lorenzo 1999: Capo Horn (Audio CD)
It was inevitable: Lorenzo Jovanotti grows up, has a kid and wants to sing about it. Luckily, he's not stuffy or insufferable and still likes to rap. But there's a sweet side to this one and he's still cooler than most people on the planet. Even if he's got bushy hair and a beard. A neo-hippie? Recommended for those who like word play and subtle beats, and you don't have to speak Italian, although it helps. Great phrase: "Funky beats/funky beato!"

5.0 out of 5 stars A different kind of album, March 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Lorenzo 1999: Capo Horn (Audio CD)
Lorenzo Jovanotti shows a rather different himself this time, with music that is a bit more 'natural'. Notice there's not always 'explosive' music, but more quiet, more natural ones. A recommendable buy. I was introduced to one song of the album via music television, and I have never regretted the purchase.

Jovanotti's rap is much more melodic than the American version of this same musical style..but Lorenzo 1990-1995 Raccolta is the better collection of material..
