This review is from: Lorenzo Palomo: Andalusian Nocturnes; Spanish Songs (Audio CD)
The first time that I heard of the name of the Spanish
composer Lorenzo Palomo was when I was reading an article about his concerto for four guitars "Concierto de Cienfuegos". I did not heard or read about it until I came across this Cd. From the liner notes this composer has had an outstanding career. On this recording we hear his "Nocturnos de Andalucia" for guitar and orchestra was first heard in Berlin on January 27th, 1996, and it was composed at the request of guitarist Pepe Romero, who along with conductor Rafael Frubeck de Burgos played it for the first time and record it here for the first time as well. The "Canciones Espanolas" are performed here by soprano Maria Bayo, written for soprano Monserrat Caballe and first heard on various occasions, and at different locations the Canciones are about the Andalucia of the composer's youth. Here the orchestra is the Seville Royal Symphony and the do an outstanding work. |
