This review is from: "Loretta Lynn - Greatest Hits, Vol. 2" (Audio CD)
Following the highly successful Greatest Hits album, the material in this Greatest Hits Vol 2 album covers Loretta's solo career from 1968 to 1973. Six of the eleven songs were written by Loretta and are classics: Coal Miner's Daughter, Fist City, You're Lookin' At Country, Your Squaw Is On The Warpath, I Wanna Be Free, and Wings Upon Your Horns. In addition is there are the mega hits Hey Loretta, Love Is The Foundation, and One's On The Way. It's interesting to note that most of the songs mentioned are so identified with Loretta that they are sung in just about every concert. The album contains two songs, Ain't It Funny and What Sundown Does To You, that weren't released as "A" side singles at all. These aren't bad songs, but several hit songs that were released during this time period were overlooked for this album and include: #2 hit You've Just Stepped In (From Stepping Out On Me), #1 hit Woman Of The World (Leave My World Alone), #3 hit To Make A Man (Feel Like A Man), #4 hit I Know How, #3 hit Here I Am Again, #6 hit You Wanna Give Me A Lift, and the #1 hit Rated 'X'. Although most of the orginal albums containing these songs have not been reissued (yet) to cds, most of these songs can be found on the Honky Tonk Girl box set. With the exception of Here I Am Again, from the 50+ concerts I have seen in 20 years, I have not heard Loretta sing any of these hits missing off the album. All and all this is great stuff. If you want an introduction to Loretta Lynn, this is perhaps the best cd. Country radio today can't begin to match the quality material that flowed from Loretta during the 60's and 70's (and year 2000 with Loretta's Still Country album).
