Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Morella and Epstein add another "star biography" to their list of credits with this chronicle of Youngan enduring, successful actress of film, radio, and TV. According to the authors, Young has been labeled a "saint" by some, the "steel butterfly" and a "chocolated-covered black widow spider" by others who have known her intimately. The authors secured "exclusive interviews" with Young's ex-husband, Ted Lewis, and use a plethora of quotable material from secondary sources. Although this biography is rather fawning and cliched, it does present some interesting background on the Hollywood star system from the 1920s to the 1950s and the beginnings and height of the television era. For public libraries with extra money and shelf space. Photos not seen. Virginia A. Doser, Saddleback Coll. Lib . , Mission Viejo, Cal.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad Book, January 3, 2004
I found this book to be very dry. It is the cut and paste life of Loretta Young, with many errors that I have found from reading other matterial about her life. There is even a lie that they tell as the truth. They write that a woman came forward to say that Loretta Young gave birth secretly to a baby in a Catholic Hospital. That is very untrue. While Loretta Young did give birth to a baby she gave birth to the baby in a house that she and her mother owned, not at a hospital.

I would not recommend this book if I wanted to know about Loretta Young. I would recommend Uncommon Knowledge or Forever Young-the Life, Loves, and enduring faith of a Hollywood Ledgend instead of this book.
