Letters To Loretta (aka) The Loretta Young Show DVD,
This review is from: The Loretta Young Show (3 Episodes) (DVD)
Very good quality picture for being B/W 50's television episodes.Complete with commercials I might add... Tide, Lilt Perm and more. Very interesting premise as Loretta Young recieves/reads letters from viewers to her audience, then acts out the roles. The 'Earthquake' episode highlights the remarkable acting talents of Loretta Young in which her husband being kept alive with a iron lung and the earthquake causes a power failure.

Collection of Three Early Episodes from Loretta's Famous Series,
By Tee (LA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Loretta Young Show (3 Episodes) (DVD)
Loretta Young was television's most popular dramatic actress during the 1950's and this budget DVD features three early episodes of her long-running tv series.1 - EARTHQUAKE (originally aired October 25, 1953) Loretta is the devoted wife of a man who lives with the assistance of an iron lung. The husband's gossipy sister suspects Loretta may be having an affair with his buddy John Agar and doesn't hesistate to tell her brother. Later, the electric power is knocked out after an earthquake and Loretta battles to keep her husband alive as best she can. This episode is from the first season when the show was titled "Letter to Loretta" and features the original intros. 2 - FEELING NO PAIN (April 17, 1955). Light comic episode of Loretta as the fiancee of her less-than-romantic boss who resents his friendship with his vampy old flame Hazel Brooks. Meanwhile, his cousin Hugh O'Brian breezes back into town and Loretta goes to have her wisdom tooth removed and finds the anathesia has doped her up and turned her into a flirty vamp herself. This episode includes a short, silly ballet fantasy which clearly has a dance double substituting for Loretta for most of it. 3 - I REMEMBER THE RANI (May 1, 1955) An Indian princess (Loretta) urges British newspaperman Edward Ashley to stay in her country to work on a series of articles about her country's drought in hopes of attracting international attention to their plight. Along the way, the two from different worlds begin to fall in love. The prints of these three episodes are for the most part excellent with occasional scratches. They also have several of the original commercials that aired during the programs. This is a nice "introductory" set to people unsure of if they would like to own the full season sets (although this disc is from a different company) or for those who would just like to have a few episodes. These don't quite rank with the very best episodes of the series but they are quite good. You may be able to find this DVD locally at a dollar or discount store at a price more along the line of what the Amazon marketplace sellers are asking. Note the DVD sleeve (and Amazon's info) incorrectly list the #3 episode as the first one on the disc and vice versa. Loretta Young's charm and appeal remains as potent in the 21st century as it was in her heyday and I enjoyed seeing these.
