Amazon.com Product Description

The Lorex SG14S1044-A 14-inch B/W 4-channel Observation System with 4 Cameras provides convenience, versatility, and quality in a robust and complete system. This system allows you to view up to four camera locations sequentially in full-screen. The included four cameras have built-in motion detection capabilities so you won't miss any action. Featuring two-way audio, remote control, and other features, the Lorex SG14Q5044-A is a complete, self-contained observation system perfect for everything from the home or business applications, to professional security installations.

The SG14Q5044-A's 14-inch black-and-white monitor can be operated via its built-in main panel or via an included remote control. Constructed within a durable metal cabinet, this monitor includes four DIN/BNC (Bayonet Neill-Concelman, RF-type) composite video inputs, and four RCA audio inputs. Also included are four alarm inputs with two alarm outputs for connecting external alarm devices. This monitor features on-screen display of date/time/camera, a stand-by switch that allows recording to occur while monitor is off, video-loss detection warning, and two-way audio capability that lets you speak to a camera location with the push of a button. Multi-voltage compatible, the SG14Q5044-A's monitor runs on 100 to 240-volts of power, achieves a horizontal resolution of 500 TVL (TV lines) at center, and has an operating temperature of 32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

The four cameras that come with the SG14Q5044-A utilize 0.33-inch black-and-white CCD (charge-coupled device) image sensors with 3.6mm fixed lenses. Powered from the monitor via the connecting cables, these cameras achieve a horizontal resolution of 400 TVL with 510 by 492 active picture elements. Constructed of durable ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic, each camera can receive a usable picture in very low-light conditions with a minimum illumination of 0.3 Lux. These units feature automatic electronic shutters with speeds ranging from 1/60 to 1/100,000 of a second, and PIR (passive InfraRed) motion sensors that alert you of camera activity. The SG14Q5044-A's cameras come with their own 63-foot connection cables allowing you to install them virtually anywhere, and can operate in temperatures ranging from 14 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit.

Technical Features:

  • Camera lenses: 3.6mm fixed
  • Image sensor: 0.33-inch B/W CCD
  • Sensitivity: minimum illumination of 0.3 Lux
  • Resolution: monitor 500 TVL, camera 400 TVL
  • Operating temperature: 14 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit for camera; 32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit for monitor
  • Monitor dimensions: 12.7 x 12.5 x 12.5 inches (W x D x H)
  • Camera dimensions: 2.5 x 3 x 2 inches (W x D x H)
Designed primarily for indoor use, the Lorex SG14Q5044-A offers you everything you need in a security surveillance system. Compatible with other Lorex digital video devices, the SG14Q5044-A allows up to four cameras to be controlled, viewed, and recorded all by a single unit. Users should note that the CCD image sensors in the cameras may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light, so the cameras should not be mounted or pointed directly at the sun or other bright-light sources.

About Surveillance Camera Technical Features
Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.

This review is from: Lorex SG14S1044-A 14-inch B/W 4-channel Observation System with 4 Cameras (Electronics)
Bought 3 complete systems for a museum, plus an additional 3 vcr recorders (at $600 each!). It, as you would imagine, took a long time to set up and wire properly for the 12 locations we wanted monitored. It worked pretty good. Wasn't too sharp but we could see what was going on where. The monitor quality started to fade after just a couple weeks and all they had all died within a few months. Replaced all the monitors and then the cameras started going. Spent thousands keeping it working over the next couple of years. Gave up and bought a "real" system from a security company. No troubles. By the way, the picture shows you can see all four views at once on each monitor - you can't. It flips from one to another but only one camera view at a time. Also bought the same replacement systems at Home Depot. They had different nameplates but were all the same junk. Really, really a bad experience.
