This night portrait by Jill Jeannides captures the massive population traversing the historic Cahuenga Pass where the Los Angeles Basin connects to the San Fernando Valley via the Hollywood Freeway U.S. Route 101. The main artery to Hollywood , Cahuenga Pass is the lowest pass through the east Santa Monica mountains and is part of California's historic El Camino Real.
Jeannides observed a dangerous and eerie quality to Cahuenga Pass. The confusing driving thru the pass results in frequent car accidents. Upon research, Jeannides discovered it was the site of two major battles, the Battle of Cahuenga Pass, and the Battle of La Providencia.
