The lyrics on this CD alone is a reason to buy this. Residente is smart whitty and quick with his lines. The beats delivered by Visitante are great as well. I think you should buy this CD along with the other 2 CD's. I think they are all great. No complaints.. My favorite song is "que lloren" and "ven y criticame" Very Eminem like. He bashes himself so no one else can do it. These guys are educated musicians. I wish them more success.

BUENA MUSICA PARA TODA LATINO AMERICA!,
By
This review is from: Los De Atras Vienen Conmigo (Audio CD)
THIS ALBUM IS A MIXTURE OF CRAZY LYRICS, AND A FUSION OF DIFFERENT WORLD RHYTHMZ. THE SONG NADIE COMO TU IS A SONG THAT UP LIFTS YOU FOR BEING DIFFERENT, QUE LLOREN TALKS ABOUT THE LACK OF CONTEXT IN THE SONGS ABOUT REGGEATONEROS, GRINGO LATIN FUNK TALKS ABOUT LATINOS FORGETTING THEIR ROOTS AND TRYING TO BE SOMETHING THEY WILL NEVER TRU;Y BE EVEN IF THESE GIRLS CHANGE THEIR HAIR COLOR AND WEAR CONTACT LENSES.
EVERYONE CAN LEARN WITH THIR MUSIC ABOUT STUPID THINGS TO VERY REAL IMPORTANT THINGS LIKE POLITICS. THE MESSAGES CHANGE DRASTICALLY. RESIDENTE TALKS POLITICS, HARD WORKING LATINOS, PUERTO RICO'S HERITAGE, LATINOS TRYING TO BE WHITE, REGGAETON WITH NO REAL CONTEXT IN LYRICS, SELF ESTEEM, LATINO STRUGGLE AND POWER, AND EVEN ABOUT SEX!!!! BUT NOT YOUR 3RD GRADE RHYMES ABOUT SEX, THE REAL NASTY AND RAUNCHY SEX!! HAHAHAHA STEP OUT OF THE BOX DADDY YANKEE, DON OMAR, WISIN Y YANDEL, IVY QUEEN... YOUR MUSIC HAS GOTTEN REPETITIVE, AND EVEN THOUGH YOUR MUSIC IS GOOD TO DANCE TO, WE DON'T LEARN ANYTHING ABOUT LIFE FROM LISTENING ABOUT YOUR MUSIC. CALLE 13 TEACHES US TO BE PROUD OF BEING LATINO AMERICANO. FROM PUERTO RICO, MEXICO, GUATEMALA, COLOMBIA, VENZUELA, ECUADOR, PERU, BRAZIL HASTA CHILE, CALLE 13 LEAVES A MESSAGE TO ALL, BE PROUD AND LEARN ABOUT THE REST OF YOUR WORLD.

Calle 13 is an example of "intelligent" music, René is proud of his roots and very critical of social injustice.

Listening to this album made me realize what music should be all about. Music should lift your problems away and make you laugh, music should leave you with a smile on your face. Calle 13's beats and lyrics made me dance unstoppably and laugh like crazy. I must say that the best thing about this band is their refreshing, original and totally different style that is HONEST. Residente is witty, a music genius. The album is about respecting and loving your roots, your hispanic heritage. My favorite song is "Electro Movimiento" where you can listen to Residente's sister "PG 13" singing the chorus and let me say she is talented as well!

My son got this CD as a birthday present and he likes it a lot. I just finished listening to it and once again find myself enjoying the poetic prose these artists offer. I was a Calle 13 fan before, but now I'm infatuated, they have tapped into different styles of music, plus have collaborated with some top notch musicians in this album. Then there's the lyrics... Hands down Calle 13 is witty, sharp and by all means irreverent.

Another Great Album From Calle 13.,

It is almost hard to believe how quickly Calle 13 release albums, but thankfully this has not at all hurt the quality of their music. Calle 13's third album "Los De Atras Vienen Conmigo" proves just that. Once again this duo showcase what urban and latin music truly has to offer. Standout tracks like Gringo Latin Funk, La Perla, and the title track off the album display great music and lyrics with actual meaning behind them. I don't want to go into much detail about what since its best to experience it for oneself, but I will say the one of these songs has sadly already got them banned from Univision Networks(an example of artistic expression not being respected). Although some might say this album is not as good as their last "Residente O Visitante," this is a different work of music and should be treated as such. Check out La Perla, a 7 minute masterpiece with salsa legend Ruben Blades to see what I mean. This song alone proves how Calle 13 have grown as artist and just keep getting better as musicians. If you love latin music or just music in general you need to check this album out. 4.5 stars out of 5

An excellent and thought-provoking disc!!,

Calle 13's latest disc offers a wide varied mixture of musical styles that make it a thoroughly enjoyable listen. From the jazzy light salsa of "La Perla", to the dancehall style of "Tal Para Cual", Calle 13 shows great inventiveness and creativity in the arrangements. The growth in their songwriting since their earliest disc is astounding, given that that first disc wasn't released too long ago.
It's important to note that Calle 13's music is not necessarily for dancing (Residente even states this in the lyrics) but for the mind, and as such, the lyrics are what really shine through on this release. Whereas in past releases from Calle 13 the listener might still find stuff to like without understanding the lyrics, Residente's intelligent wordplay take center stage on songs like "Que Lloren", "Latin Gringo Funk", "John, El Esquizofrénico" and the title song. With topics ranging from Latino pride to mental illness, to just having fun to what life is like on the streets, Calle 13 approaches their lyrics like their music, with a lot of experimentation, intelligence and fun. Their infamous use of profanity is toned down a bit on this disc, but instead Residente writes clever rhymes that bring a smile to the face (who can listen to "Fiesta de Locos" and not laugh, in a good way?). I can't imagine I'd enjoy this CD as much if I didn't understand the lyrics. Overall, these guys set the standard for what "reggaeton" or "urban-latin" music can be: creative, thought-provoking and intelligent. These guys are the real deal!! |
