They May Be Compared to Many Artists, but...,
By
This review is from: Los Lonely Boys (Audio CD)
I can't recall when the last time was that I actually just let a new cd play all the way through without skipping a track on the first play due to boredom or the track's lack of power to hold my interest...Los Lonely Boys debut is that extremely rare album. From the awesome guitar work to the melodic sounds such as found in the track Heaven this is the kind of music I'm always open to and crave; this is the kind of real artistry that is set apart from the kiddie music heard on pop-junk radio and video stations !From previous reviews they have been compared to everyone from Stevie Ray Vaughan (LLB even give him a thankful nod in the liner notes of the cd) to (as one reviewer said) Los Lobos. Hints of Santana? Maybe. What matters is that the music and lyrics are infectious from track one to the last track. Are there many musical influential styles? Absolutely. Everything from Texan blues, some country, to good ol' rock and roll from the days of Richie Valens and Elvis Presley. Plenty of Southwestern and some Californian (almost a la Dwight Yoakam) feel...The mixture of so many different influences is done to create such a unique and colorful panoramic style of their own that I do believe these boys stand out ! So what if these guys do become very famous. It won't mean that they are necessarily sell outs but that the commercial music industry has finally opened up it's eyes and ears to something that does not have a rap, hip hop beat or head banging trash-like influence on young cd buyers...

These Guys are How Old?,
By Veronica M (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Los Lonely Boys (Audio CD)
I bought this CD because of "Heaven" and to support my fellow Texan musicians. I expected to get stuck with a one-hit wonder CD. Not the case at all!!! These guys are incredible! You can definitely hear the SRV and Santana influences. But rather than just copying and combining sounds, the boys take their influences and build them into something fresh and highly addictive. I've owned this CD for 4 days and I'm already annoying my neighbor with it, playing it over, and over, and over. Can't believe the boys are all under the age of 25. They've got a unity that can only come from walking out of the same womb with instrument in hand and immediately joining the family band. Tight vocals. Even tighter riffs. If they sound this great now, can't wait to hear them in 10 years!

Los Lonely Boys kick major a**,

Los Lonely Boys consist of the three Garza brothers: Henry on guitar, JoJo on bass, and Ringo on drums. This cd that they have made is one of the best cds to come out in a long time. It appeals to everyone. Just look at all of the positive reviews this album is getting on this site. They can't be pegged. When someone describes them, you'll get "Well, they sound like Stevie Ray, Santana, Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, and Willie Nelson all combined." That is the sign of a great band, when you can't paint them into a corner. From rockers like "Senorita" and "Real Emotions", to slower numbers like "More Than Love" and "Velvet Sky", this band mixes it up in a way that hasn't been done in years. The scary thing is, their hit single, "Heaven", is not even the best on the cd. That falls to either "Senorita", "Crazy Dream", or "Real Emotions." Just think what the Garza bros. have in store for us. It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.

Great from Start to Finish,
By Amy Liz (Maryland) - See all my reviews

The best way for me to describe this album is to say it's a mix between Eric Clapton and Santana. The release is perfect; there's not much--if anything--like it crossing over into the maintstream. It's easy to see how it appeals to many diverse listeners, though. This album has everything: rock, blues, a bit of country and western, and some great south-of-the-border tunes as well. I can listen to this whole album, no skipping tracks, because it's that good. Not only can these guys play their instruments to perfection, their harmony is excellent, too. It's nice to hear such quality musicianship for a change! Thank you, Los Lonely Boys, and good luck. I hope to hear more from this band in the future.Quick note: I used to live in San Angelo, from where these three brothers hail, and I'm proud to see people putting West Texas on the map.

I heard the song "Heaven" on the radio and ran right out to buy the CD. I was not disappointed. This CD is absolutely amazing and gets better every time I listen to it. Well worth picking up for your collection.

Los Lonely Boys Take You To Heaven,
This review is from: Los Lonely Boys (Audio CD)
Los Lonely Boys is made of the three Garza brothers, guitarist Henry, bassist Jojo and drummer Ringo. They hail from San Angelo, Texas and their music is rooted in their home state. Drawing from artists all over the musical map like Willie Nelson, Doug Sahm, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Richie Valens, Los Lobos, The Beatles and every one in between, the brothers have forged an interesting musically sound. Henry's guitar playing is a force throughout the album. He channels Stevie Ray Vaughan on "Crazy Dreams", Santana on "Dime Mi Amor" and sets his own original sound throughout especially with his magnificent acoustic guitar playing. The brothers have wonderful harmonies that provide the songs with a soulful air. "Heaven" is the first single and is, so far, the best song of the year. The album was recorded at Willie Nelson's studio in Austin, TX and Mr. Nelson provides guest guitar work on "La Contestacion". The group has done a wonderful job of absorbing the musical history taught to them by their musical father and mixing those diverse sounds into their own original rock and roll stew.

Fantastic CD,

I bought this CD because I was familiar with the song Heaven from radio. However, I discovered this CD is packed with fantastic original songs with great guitar instrumentals. There's not a bad song on the CD.

Finally, a new band that doesn't suck,

I didn't know about this band until my wife took me to see them at Hampton beach for Father's Day. I was very surprised. Santana's son's band opened up for them and I must say they were just all wrong. Too many different styles mixed into a mess, but LLB was fabulous! All of the people that say they are a rip off of real musicians should get a life. Stevie was influenced by Hendrix, so when he played Voodoo Chile was it a rip off? I remember a friend who was a Hendrix fiend thought that until he heard SRV. The apologies never stopped and the thanks for showing him was always mentioned. To say that there is no soul in this band is unfounded. I can't even listen to the radio anymore because of all the no soul, no talent, metal head, teenybopper trash, rap and so called R & B ( Rythm and BLUES!!!) that is on the waves these days. I remember back in the eighties when all of the pop stuff was on and that fateful day came when I heard that first Stevie Ray lick and had to stop my car to listen and find out who the Hell that was. This band was similar. Not to say tht they are as good as SRV, but I mean really! A BAND THAT PLAYS MUSIC! No looping aerobics class beat. No whiny just into puberty chick singing about her boy toys. No pissed off headbanger trying to start a fight, Just three talented singer/ musicians bringing their own style of music taken from great influences and sending out for us. Truly a band on their way up. I can't wait to hear more stuff to see how these guys grow musically and master their sound. AND PRAISE TO GOD ALMIGHTY THAT THEY NEVER FORGET THEIR INFLUENCES!!!

The Los Lonely Boys are a power Mexican-Blues band with alot of soul in their songs. Henry is the lead guitarist who has a style similar to Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Richie Valens. He deliver's powerful guitar solo's. Heaven is the best song on the album everyone will probaley come across the song on MTV, VH1, or CMT. The song has been played over and over on all of the previous music channels. The whole album comes from the soul the members deliver their absolute best. Any guitar fan will love this new best thing. The Los Lonely Boys debut album is worth the buy. If you want to here Heaven go to www.loslonelyboys.com for a free video. Enjoy

A great listen,

This is a debut album that deserves a lot of praise. It is a tribute to numerous genres of music, blended together in an authentic musical experience.
Composition: I am a big fan of their composition and musical arrangements. They optimize their musical talents, which is all you can ask for in a band. It is impressive that in one album they present touches from many different influences from Santana, the Beatles, and others. Vocals: Are they they greatest singers? No. But their voices blend very well... of course, because they are brothers. Henry Garza has a wonderful blend voice between rock and pop. And Jojo actually has a wonderful tenor voice. But most importantly, their harmonization is natural and easy. Creativity: The music is very creative, mostly on the part of Henry Garza's work on the guitar. The first time I listened to him play was on Late Night with David Letterman. I consider myself a bit picky with music and musicianship. I remember thinking, this guy is extremely talented, not just with technique but shape. I love the shape of his riffs. Lyrics: You can expect this album to share some of the same subject matter as most pop or rock ablums. However, what I do enjoy is that there are also hints of deeper and more spiritual themes in their music (Not just in the song 'Heaven'). Summary: This is one of my favorite albums from the last couple years. I highly recommend it. |
