What a wonderful CD. J King y Maximan have done something that I really appreciate--they have made a good Reggaeton album. A lot of great Reggaeton acts are working on expanding their beats, providing more variety from the dem bow riddim, incorporating more US style hip hop elements, even working on more trance aspects to the music. I applaud experimentation, but I love the dem bow riddim. That riddim is Reggaeton for me, and when I hear that beat, it makes me want to move. J. King and Maximan can certainly stretch out and work on other beats, they incorporate elements of salsa in their instrumentation, but when it comes down to it, they are hitting the reggaeton beat hard. Their rhymes are humorous, at times touching, and when they incorporate singing, it is quite effective. Fans of Wisin y Yandel will appreciate this disc, although it is a little less aggressive than WyY in some parts. Although they don't have the same rapidfire delivery that Daddy Yankee has, their joy in the music reminds me of DY at his partying best. My confession? I love estrellita. Can't get enough of it.
