5.0 out of 5 stars like it rough and sexy?, August 2, 1999

This review is from: Los Tormentos de Amor (Audio CD)
Chock full of smoky lyrics recalling hot texas *LUV* and musicians who have a healthy respect for a number of roots music, this CD hops in your head and looms somewhere there between distant memories and dark longings. I listen to it when I want to be alone...

the Southern Backtones Tunes have an array of ethnic influence. From the waves of southern California to the steppes of Texas, out to the rolling hills of Germany to the sand dunes near the Mediterranean. Not bad for 3 white guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Southern backtones... No wonder Texas is so great!, July 29, 1999

Pure Texas rockabilly punk. Chris Isaak meets Danzig who slipped on Robert Johnson and choked on Elvis who in turn puked on Dike Dale. Guess you just gotta hear these guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars Traveling a dark desert highway? Dont leave w/o this CD!, July 28, 1999

This review is from: Los Tormentos de Amor (Audio CD)
Like something out of a David Lynch film... The Southern Backtones will chill your spine with eerie surf-like twang and moody melodies, then strike your soul with a dark vengence! The song writing is second only to Morrison, however the vocals are in a leage of their own. "Road Tune," my personal favorite has a certain speghetti western quality while their 40's remake of "Bei Mir Bist Du Schon" literally erects goosebumps! Definately one of the top 10 cd's in my collection.
