Kathy speaks to more than just your appetite., June 17, 2010
Over the last 4 months I have been conducting an on-line Weight Loss and Dieting Interview Series. I have read numerous books to prepare for the Presenters and when I read Kathy's book I knew I had encountered something special. From the very outset Kathy guides you through the process of weight control but in a way that results in a deep and fundamental change in your life. It is very clear that Kathy understands that no permanent and meaningful change can occur from the "outside" and you are gently led to the realization that to lose weight you will need to change from the inside. Kathy's style of writing presents the information in a manner that makes you feel you are having a conversation with a friend. Each chapter begins with an "inspirational" quote and I found her selection of quotes to be amazing. I looked forward to reading each quote because they set the tone for the chapter and create a framework to understand the information. (I found myself writing down the quotes so that I could keep the with me to read during my day.) Kathy's depth of knowledge and level of insight propels you through the book. As you read this book you will realize, perhaps more clearly than ever before, that if you change the way you think you will change your life. Reading this book will "open doors" for you and all you have to do is walk through. This is not a book you read once and put on a shelf to collect dust. This is a book that stays with you as a guide and reference. If you have been struggling with your weight this is a book you must read.

Tired of Dieting? Buy This Book!, November 23, 2009
This review is from: Lose The Diet: Transform Your Body By Connecting With Your Soul. (Paperback)
Do you dread the tempting holiday desserts you try to resist only to splurge in excess and finish the year with the typical holiday bulge? If you are constantly considering the next diet you need to start I suggest you stop and read Kathy Balland's book, Lose the Diet: Transform your body by connecting with your soul. I have read various diet books through out the years, and found this book to be quite different then any others. Lose the Diet is a valuable resource to anyone who has struggled with weight loss or weight management. Many times losing the weight is the easy part and keeping it off becomes a difficult challenge. This book offers what most 'diet' books don't. Kathy Balland takes a holistic approach and really helps you examine the emotional component to your eating. She says when you fully reconnect with yourself, you'll discover your power to achieve and maintain a healthy weight naturally without dieting. Lose the Diet shows you how to: * Drop the diets and the weight in a healthy and natural way. * Find out why deprivation doesn't work. * Learn about the mind-body-soul connection's effect on weight * Discover that happiness leads to a healthy weight rather than the other way around. * Insightful tools and information that help you to find balance - from the inside out! I had many new insights after reading this book, and I am sure you will too! Here are a few things I learned. It's recommended that a person who eats 2,200 calories a day should consume a maximum amount of 12 teaspoons of added sugar a day, which is a little more then a can of soda! If you are a soda drinker, cutting back would be a quick way to lose a lot of empty calories. Certain foods such as sweets and fats sends out a metabolic signal that tells the brain to shut off the stress response, which in turn reduces the symptoms of stress. This is why emotional eating can become a vicious cycle so easily. A craving lasts for about 15 seconds. If you can make it without diving head first into the chip or cookie bag you have gotten past the hard part. It can be as simple as shifting your focus and getting busy! This book will change your life, July 26, 2009
This review is from: Lose The Diet: Transform Your Body By Connecting With Your Soul. (Paperback)
I have long believed that the weight battle is not fought on the scale, or in the kitchen or at the supermarket, but in our minds. I've been overweight for 20 years and morbidly obese for 14 of those. Yet, surprisingly perhaps, I haven't been on many diets. See, I knew that diets don't work. Instead I've been trying for the last three years to change to a healthy lifestyle that will not only return me to a normal weight, but heal some health problems. My husband is fully on board and we love the healthy life. But, for some reason or the other, I would always start sabotaging myself after a while. This used to drive me crazy! Why can't I allow myself to feel good and get healthy? I knew it had a lot to do with my upbringing, my poor self-esteem and my need to rebel at every turn. This book arrived at exactly the right time for me. There is so much information between these pages it took me a month to read and assimilate the whole book (I usually devour a book in less than a day). Kathy Balland has given me hope. I know that there is a lot of work to be done (reading is one thing, but success lies in the doing), but I'm really excited about it, because I have already experienced some changes in the way I see myself and my life and in the way I express myself. This book touches on every aspect of our lives. It is well-planned and well-written. I recommend it to all who have weight problems and are ready to change not only their weight, but their lives, for the better.
