5.0 out of 5 stars Finaly a book that addresses the real issues!
I really like this book. It approached weight as the symptom of deeper issues. Addressing and overcoming those issues is what needs to happen. Your typical diet fails in the long run because it only changes what you eat. Not WHY you eat. If you run to food for comfort or emotional support you won't stick to diets when trouble comes around. This book is helping me to...

This book is helping me to get real, face facts and turn it all over to God. I recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book has changed my eating habits completely!, March 14, 2006

I had been trying to lose weight for 6 years, after gaining 20 lbs. I just could not get motivated to stick to a diet. I bought this book and something in it clicked with me. I've lost the 20 lbs. and have been maintaining my weight. This book addresses the fact that all overeating is emotional eating. It teaches you to get at the source of the reasons you turn to food. I bought the journal as well. It really helped to keep a record of what I ate. I recommend this book to anyone who's previously had a hard time losing weight.

4.0 out of 5 stars Same diet, different spin, July 29, 2005
This review is from: Lose It for Life (Hardcover)
This book promotes low glycemic eating and exercise.

The big difference is the spiritual aspect. It addresses the rebellious eating, emotional eating, etc that many other books talk about but gives Biblical and spiritual answers. I am not a very religious person and did not find the book too "preachy".

I bought the workbook as well. It has more Biblical references and I found it more confusing. However, the parts that weren't King James preaching, were very helpful.

I have lost weight on this when other similar plans have not worked. Maybe the spiritual "holistic" approach is the best for me. I have been able to remain focused. It is slow but steady. I will take what I can get!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than I Expected, October 3, 2007

I have enjoyed several of Stephen Arteburn's other books, so I had pretty high expectations for this one. And I was VERY surprised that this book actually EXCEEDS my expectations. Like some other "God-based" weight-loss books, Stephen talks about how God can meet emotional needs that we currently meet with food. But this book takes it so much further by making the entire topic relatable to guys like me...guys struggling with weight issues as well as spiritual issues.

BUT, Stephen talks about the subject in a way that makes it MUCH easier to integrate these ideas into day-to-day life. With the clear-cut science presented by Dr. Linda backing up everything Stephen talks about, this book is a WINNER, for sure.

The book and the workbook are really faith based and delves deep into the emotional reasons for habits and lifestyles that lead to unhealthy eating and other unfulfilling things.
I am meeting with a group and it is helping us to discuss the various issues that are usually lightly touched on, in other "usual" weight loss books. This is about life changes and spiritual fulfilment.

4.0 out of 5 stars The real reason you are fat..., April 13, 2008
This review is from: Lose It for Life (Hardcover)
This book helps you get to the bottom of why people over-eat. Since television is flooded with weight loss products and machines, this is the one book that will solve the problem without special diets or expensive machines. Very thought provoking.
