3.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but... June 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I would really like to give this book more than 3 stars, but I cannot. I recently bought Ms. Richards' first book High Protein Vegetarian Breakfast Recipes (Jan. 2012) and have enjoyed several things about it, so I bought this one, High Protein Vegetarian Lunch Recipes (May 2012).

First, the writing style is an easy read, and I like that. Ms. Richards' informal writing style is friendly and makes you feel like she's sitting in your kitchen sharing a cup of tea with you. Also, the book is very Kindle friendly. And again, like the first book, there are many excellent recipes and ideas in this one, as well.

But that is where the love affair ends. Several reviewers liked the fact that Ms. Richards gives the nutritional analysis for each recipe--well, she does and she doesn't. There are no recipes that include the sodium analysis, and as one who has to watch my sodium intake, I know the recipes in this book are pretty high in sodium. Many of the ingredients used contain canned beans, low-fat cheese (much higher in sodium than regular cheese), canned tomatoes, etc. While this is not a killer for me using this book, I do have to make the necessary substitutions, and that is fine. However, others may not be quite as comfortable doing so, especially if they are new to a lower sodium diet. I feel this can be an important issue for some, and that is the reason I am mentioning it. One thing I do like is that many recipes have ample fiber, as well.

Also, feel like this book was rushed to publication on the coattails of the first one. Her first book came out in January, and just 5 months later, this one is already on the market--with some needed editing to recipes. For example, the calorie count for the first recipe, "Fabulous Feta and Hummus Wrap," is listed at 29.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value for easy meal and recipes ideas June 2, 2012
By Carol
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well I'm not strictly vegetarian I have become less of a meat eater with the economy being what it currently is. Becoming mostly vegetarian has saved us money but I really noticed feeling hungry a lot of the time... think it was to many empty carbs without the protein content. These recipes have definitely helped with that, giving good portions of protein in every meal which gets me through the day much easier - not hanging out for the next meal and picking in between - I have also purchased her other book but have not yet cooked anything from it - she does state that breakfast is the most important meal so will be interesting to see how we go with that.
I also like that I can just click on the recipe I like from the menu and I'm taken straight there. Good value for easy recipes that you know will be good for you and your family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Find! June 1, 2012
By Ro
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Nice to find a vegetarian book focused on high protein at each meal. For years Ive indulged in protein shakes to get some protein, which I'm so over, so I was pleasantly surprised to not find a protein shake in sight. This book is using everyday foods in a balanced way which I have noticed has curbed my appetite - I was already a where of the power that protein has to curb appetite but as I like to lift weights and look firm I really require high protein throughout the day. Glad to have found that here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Tasting High Protein Lunches June 1, 2012
By Alex
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If your looking for good tasting high protein lunches then that's what this book provides, all in one easy place. I liked reading about Lisa's weight loss journey and have also picked up her breakfast book as I liked having this line of recipes on my kindle. I know the benefits of having high protein in my diet only negative would be that there isn't any recipes containing protein powder as I like to use that as a good source of protein. Other then that this is a lovely change to my usual meals.

I must admit, I buy a lot of cookbooks because I really love to cook and eat :) but I get bored quickly so I'm always looking for new ideas to try out.while I found some good ideas in this book they are not for the Martha Stewart types that like to spend hours cooking, the author makes it clear that she doesn't have the time to spend much time in the kitchen, so this is more of her favorites that have helped her to lose weight easily and simply by eating more protein... its a good book for those that like to put together something quickly and get out the door.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meals only take 20 minutes or less May 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Some nice meal ideas here, as a vegetarian I always find it hard to get enough protein into my diet so this was a nice find. I would have liked to have seen some more photos although the recipes are simple enough not to need them. Bonus was finding that the meals only take 20 minutes or less and that all the nutritional values are included.. well I did not buy this book for losing weight I'm glad to have come across it as an easy to turn to meal idea and recipe book.
