Book Description

January 2009
So begins the new Sam Carew Mystery. When a lawyer is found bludgeoned to death in his own home and Jim Ormerod is fingered as the killer, his wife, an ex-girlfriend of Sam's, has nowhere to turn. Sam believes Jim to be innocent but his investigation becomes increasingly complicated as he becomes involved with some troublesome local travellers. To make matters even more interesting his skills are also called upon to escort a valuable painting from Amsterdam across to Unsworth. It should be a simple operation, but somehow nothing ever is, as far as Sam's concerned. Then there's another gruesome murder and Sam suspects the killer has a death list and this is only the beginning. His hunches are usually proven correct.

Editorial Reviews

From AudioFile

British Author Ken McCoy is a man of many talents. After 25 years as a builder, he turned to writing thrillers. LOSER is his fourth "Mad" Sam Carew novel, and he narrates it as well--very credibly. Sam is called upon to find the killer of a lawyer who was bludgeoned to death with a golf club. One of the victim's golf buddies is arrested for the murder. No Carew novel is without its subplots, and in this one there's an attack on Sam and an issue about the safekeeping of a Dutch Master painting. McCoy's heavy British accent, which he sometimes gives a rough sound, is perfect for many of the characters. He's got his voices down pat, and his tempo is that of an experienced narrator.
