I would recommend this book to anyone who would have the same "friends or fame" kind of problem. Anyone else can read it also. A kid would like this book, maybe a teen. It would have the same kind of problem in life and could help out a little. When i read this book i kind of had the idea that it has happened to me once. The plot, the choices. The plot i liked alot. It was one of the greatest books i had ever read. The title was good. At first i thought it was non-fiction but it wasn't. There are 2 themes, one the girl isn't everything. The 2nd theme is you don't have to be a loser to get the attention you want.

4.0 out of 5 stars As long as you try your best, you're never a loser!, January 18, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Losers, Inc. (Paperback)
Twelve year old Ethan Winfield compares everything he does in life to that of his older brother Peter, who just happens to be perfect. This causes Ethan to consider himself a loser at basketball, book reports, and life in general. He also writes down all of the injustices of the universe in a journal everytime he thinks life is unfair. His only consolation is that his best friend Julius Zimmerman is a bigger loser! When they decide to form their own club, they set strict guidelines for all members. They must aspire to never be inspired!

Most 8-14 year olds will be able to relate to the many mishaps that Ethan and Julius must survive as pre-teens. The most rewarding part of the book is when Ethan decides to right an injustice he has done to the friendless Lizzie who is in love with him. Claudia Mills also satisfys the reader with an ending of self discovery for Ethan that provides hope for all youngsters struggling with adolesence.

5.0 out of 5 stars I recommend this book to people who don't get good grades., October 3, 1999

This review is from: Losers, Inc. (Paperback)
Ethan and Julius are middle school students. Everybody including themselves think that they are losers at school. They always read the shortest books for book reports. They never win at the annual science fair. Ethan and Julius suck at sports too. So Julius thought of making a club called Losers Inc. There are only two members in the club. Julius is the president and Ethan is the vise president of the club. But, when Ms Gunderson who is a student teacher comes, both Ethan and Julius fall in love with her secretly. Then Ethan tries to impress her by reading a 422-page book for a book report. Ms Gunderson did not believe he actually read such a long book and told him to read short ones. His friend Julius stood up for him and tried to tell the teacher that he had really read the book "A City for Two". Ethan also tried to impress the teacher by winning the Nobel Peace Prize by winning the science fair. All the previous years he got his ideas from a book his mother borrowed from the library. This year he thought of the idea for the science fair himself. He wants to find out why some balls bounce and some don't. He tested ten different balls including a basketball, soccer, football, and tennis, baseball on three different surfaces - carpet, wooden floor and concrete. Isn't a shame that he didn't win after all his effort? He becomes a better student. He got three A's in math, one A in science and one in English. His friend Julius thought he wasn't a loser after all. Julius thought he is the only loser in school and the club Losers Inc is no longer needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Losers Inc. Review, May 11, 2006
This review is from: Losers, Inc. (Hardcover)
My name is Max Mordini. About 3-4 weeks ago I stumbled onto a book that I bought a year or two ago called Losers Inc. The book looked interesting and I decided to read it. After I read the first fifteen pages I was already hooked and I wanted to see what would happen throughout the rest of the book. I will now give you a summary of the book.
The book is about a loser named Ethan Windfield and his best friend Julius. Ethan thought that life was completely unfair; and to make matters worse his brother was a stud. He hated this because he was always compared to his brother who was good at everything academically and sportswise. This was part of why life was so unfair but there were other things besides being compared to his brother. For example, after Julius and Ethan finally finished their book reports their teacher told them that their books were to short. Another example is that the ugliest girl in the whole school liked Ethan.
Ethan and Julius started a club called Losers inc. Their motto was " Some are born losers and some acheive losing. A couple of days after Losers inc. was started Ethan and julius's eyes get caught on a beautiful student teacher name Grace. They were both in love with the teacher and they couldn't stop thinking about her and looked for her in every class until they got to their first period room. Sure enough Grace was sitting at the desk in first period science. Right away Ethan knew he was in love and he would do anything to impress her.
After science ended Ethan realized that the school science fair was coming up. Every year he worked with Julius on his project but he knew that if he wanted to impress her he couldn't work with Julius. They got to Julius's house and Ethan didn't Know how to brake it to Julius but eventually The words ( I dont wont to work with you this year) slipped out. Ethan didn't know what to do for his project but he knew he wanted it to be creative. Eventually Ethan was playing basketball and asked himself why does a basketball bounce? This was what he was going to do for his project, see how balls bouce the way they do, and why they bounce like that. Ethan also didn't want to be made a fool of in English so he picked a book that was 422 pages. He finished the whole entire thing and could not wait for the day he would perform his report. Eventually that day came and Ethan got his report over with and it was perfect. After class the teacher asked if he could talk to Ethan in private. The teacher didn't beileve that Ethan read a book 400 pages. Ethan was crushed he didn't know what to say. He read every page. Eventually she was convinced and gave Ethan an A. Now that Ethan was becoming a better student he was becoming less of a loser.
When the science fair came around he was excited. He thought his expirement could really go to the regionals. Especially because he got tips from Peter who has one the science fair every year. When he brought his experiment and set up his booth, it looked wonderful. The graphs were neatly organized and proffesional looking and his balls were lined up neatly in the back of the booth. His project was the hit of the 6th grade. It was a mob scheme around his booth.
His project was impressive but not impressive enough. He didn't win but they thought his project was very creative and they loved his enthusiasm. Of course Peter won again the fair again, and Ethan could tell that Julius was mad at him because he betrayed Losers inc.
The book ends by Ethan riding to Grace Gunderson's apt. complex to say goodbye and admit to bad things he had done that month and that he wasn't perfect. When he got there he bumped into Julius and had a talk about there friendship and agreed that they were still best friends and that Ethan could be the V.P of Losers inc.

I would recommend this book to grades 4-7. It is a very wonderful book and you have to read it to appreciate it.
Losers Inc. Is a GREAT book!

Losers R us
Losers Inc. by
Claudia Mills

There are two boys Ethan and Julius. Them and other people think they are losers. So they start a club called Losers Inc. because they are not very good at anything. there is a science fair coming up and they usaully do it toget her, but Ethan wants to do it by himself. Then he thinks Juilius is mad at him.
One of my favorite parts of the book is when they go to there substitute's house because they realy like her. "Which apartment is hers?" Ethan asked "I guess we'll have to look at mailboxes," Juilius said. Then they go out and sit on the curb and she comes while they are there.
It could be funny and excitig at times. So people who like that kind of books might think it is good.
I would give it a 7 out of 10.

This review is from: Losers, Inc. (Hardcover)
A reader's first impression towards Losers INC. might be that it is a fictional and very weird story. But soon you will find out it is a story of friendship, love, and much more.
In the beginning of the story, Ethan and Julius are known as losers, they are proud of it too. So they start a club called Losers INC. They had to figure out who would be the president and the vice president. Julius deiced to be the vice president, he thought it would be more loserish. Then a day later at school, they had to tell about their book report they had just did. And of coarse Ethan picked a book that was only 72 pages. While Lizzie did a book that was 225 pages. Ethan thought Lizzie was a class pet.
A tiny bit later in the story, Ethan started to notice that Lizzie had a crush on him. He didn't like her though. Ethan liked Grace. In math class, Ethan was having trouble with a problem or two so the teacher asked if Lizzie would help him, of coarse she said yes. Ethan learned a lot from Lizzie when it came to math. Well, a few days later, Ethan said to Julius that he was going to read A Tale of Two Cities, which had 425 pages. Julius thought Ethan was crazy and thought he could never do it. Then the next day at school, Ethan got assigned to work with Lizzie for Peer-Assisted Learning {PAL}.
A little bit later then that, Ethan told Julius that he loved the book. It was a story that took place in the 1700s. And he went on and on about it. Ethan was trying to beat Lizzie is the next book report. He wanted to do better and prove to everyone that he wasn't such a loser. Well, during PAL time Ethan's friends and him were watching Lizzie write a poem, they deiced to do a prank on her and tell her to enter a contest that they had only knew about. Well, Lizzie fell for it and she asked them for the address it should be sent to. They gave her Marcia's cousins address, who lived in Washington DC. They said it would make it more official if it was sent to Washington DC.

After that, During study hall Ethan read more of his book, A Tale of Two Cities, he was now on page 260. Ethan's brother had told him if he liked A Tale of Two Cities he would like a book called The Yearling. A few days went by, and Ethan finished his book, and now it was time to read his book report aloud. But before he had read it, Mrs. Gunderson, the teacher, did it in A B C order for who goes first and last. And Ethan's last name started with an W. So after Lizzie went Ethan asked if she could go backwards. She never really thought about that. However, his friend Julius Zimmerman, had to go next, and he didn't finish the book, yet he didn't do his project. Then Ethan had gone and read his book report and the teacher asked him to stay after class, She said, "I don't know how to say this but I would rather you read the shortest possible book, rather than rely on the plot summaries to pretend you read something you didn't." Ethan said, "But I did read it." And it went back and forth till Mrs. Gunderson believed Ethan.
Before Ethan knew it Valentine's Day was here, and he didn't know what to expect for anyone. He defiantly didn't know what to get for Grace. Lizzie sent him a Valentine's Day card, and she sent a poem with it too. During Science they had to light a bunsen burner, Lizzie was the only one who couldn't do it. A lot of people made fun of her. Ethan was the only one who didn't. He stayed after and helped her try to light the burner. She did it. They did it about three times.
Sooner days came, the science fair was coming and Peter and Ethan were going to be in it, for two very different things. Ethan knew that Peter would win no matter what. So the day came where they got judged on their projects. Ethan's was very cool, everyone was around him looking at his bouncy balls. All in the end though, Peter won. Their parents were happy for both of them and told them that they would have a "party," for their goodness. But Ethan knew it would be all for Peter. So Ethan said he didn't want to have a party, and Peter suggested that they go out for Pizza and Ethan didn't want to go but he did anyway.
Later, Ethan started to notice that he liked Lizzie. That day, he wanted to tell her about that poem contest. He wanted to say it was all a prank but he couldn't. It would have been to mean he said. He couldn't believe that he was in on it. Well, a couple of days later she got a response saying she won. She was so excited. But he couldn't keep it in anymore, somebody had to tell her and it was going to be him. So he told her and she ran crying.
In the end, it was great, Lizzie submitted it to a National Writing Contest. She won in that one. She was happy and this one wasn't a prank. Ethan told her that he liked her and she still liked him A LOT. And he was relieved. At then end of their 8th period they got report cards and he got 3 A's and he was so happy. It was because of help from Lizzie.
The whole book, Ethan was trying to prove to people that live was unfair but all in all it wasn't. The book had a lot to offer. I think it showed or at least tried to show, you shouldn't do mean things to people, Shouldn't call them a loser, and that you should just be you and not try to do things that you wouldn't usually do. I don't think it failed anything. So I think you should read it and find out for your self.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Losers, Inc. (Paperback)
This Book is about a group of kids that are called "Losers Inc." The kids kids that are in the group are really losers of the school. But Eathen and Peter play basketball but Peter is the best because he has the best shot. The don't really care about being losers of the school. Eathen has a best friend named Julius he also likes baskeball. Eatheen likes one of the teachers i don't know her name but he thinks she is hot.
I kindof like this book just a little but most of the book is really boring. another reason why i dislike this book its because is has no action it needs more. I do like this book just a little
because it has some compatition in the book. Another is because it has to do with basketball.
The part I enjoyed the most is when the first game of basketball it was very exciting. But that was the only reason I enjoyed this book. The rest of the book was pretty boring except a few parts.
I would not recamend this to others becoause the book is way to boring. But if you like books with no action in it then you should read this book. But it is your choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Losers,INC, May 16, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Losers, Inc. (Paperback)
Losers, INC is a club made up by and for two losers,Ethan and Julius. Both of these boys are bad in school and make no effort to do anything. That was util Ms. Gunderson came to their school. Ethan and Julius falk in love with Ms.Gunderson while at the same time a girl named Lizzie falls in love with Ethan. The two boys try to do as much as possible to impress Ms.Gunderson including good grades. Meanwhile Lizzie is impressed with Ethan too.

Lizzie is the smart dorky kid at the school and is made fun of all the time. Lizard is what everyone calls her. Ethan is nice to Lizzie out of kindness and also apprecation towards Ms.Gunderson. Ethan and Julius sure do impress Ms.Gunderson!

I liked Losers,INC because it was a good demonstraton towards life.I also thought it was funny that two kids would think a teacher loved them. Losers,INC was also good because it expressed all the characters so you could understand them.

I enjoyed the science fair scene the best. It reminded me of when I used to be in Sciencefairs. Yhis part of the bool was tense and exciting compared to the rest. It was awesome to see what a science fair was like in the authors vision.

This book is highly recommended to anyone who likees realistic fiction. It was a good book and it keeps the reader occupied. In some areas of the book it can make you feel like your in it.
